Job DescriptionThe Texas General Land Office is seeking an Information Specialist (Travel Aide) within the Executive Administration Department of the agency.
Our MissionThe Texas General Land Office primarily serves the schoolchildren, veterans, and the environment of Texas. The agency does so by preserving our history, maximizing state revenue through innovative administration, and through the prudent stewardship of state lands and natural resources.
Job Responsibilities- Perform highly advanced informational and communications work, including executive staffing, photography, research, writing, editing, and production of content and materials for release to various communications media and for internal and public use.
- Work directly with the Office of Communications and the Executive Team, under limited supervision and with considerable initiative and independent judgment.
- Travel with Principal & Executive staff to events around the state, keeping them on schedule.
- Plan and research events, programs, conferences, seminars, workshops, and public hearings; coordinate with Executive Protection, External Relations, and the Director of Executive Operations for logistics.
- Relay important information from trips to Executive staff and the Office of Communications.
- Advise Communications and Government Relations leadership on issues arising from events and interactions with the principal.
- Prepare travel bag and tools including briefing materials, news interview kits, and video production equipment.

- Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university with a degree in journalism, public relations, advertising, communications, or a related field.
- At least two (2) years’ experience in journalism, public relations, public information, communications, media relations, social media work, and travel aide.
- Demonstrated experience with state politics.
- Knowledge of agency functions, policies, and procedures; news and communication media; social media platforms; editing and preparing informational material; design principles; and publishing and broadcast industries.
- Skill in editorial and design practices, and in the use of a computer and applicable software.
- Ability to research, prepare information, design communication plans and materials, compose content for websites and social media, prepare copy and scripts, and communicate effectively.
Primarily sedentary office work, with routine mobility to carry out tasks. Requires extensive computer, telephone, client/customer contact, ability to move and position oneself, read printed materials and screens, and transport records, documents, boxes, and all related information up to 20 pounds when required.
