CARE Coordinator
The Community Assistance, Resources, and Empowerment (C.A.R.E.) Coordinator, Basic Needs & Advocacy plays a key role in supporting and coordinating services that help students meet their essential needs, including access to food, housing, transportation, mental health, and emergency financial support. The coordinator serves as a connector across departments and external agencies, manages outreach and intake processes, and ensures timely referrals and tracking of support services.
SupervisionReceived and Exercised
Operates under the direct supervision of the department manager or designated supervisor. While the role does not typically include formal supervisory responsibilities, the Coordinator may oversee limited hourly staff, including interns and temporary employees, and coordinate schedules. They may provide guidance to junior staff or new hires as part of onboarding and training processes. The position is expected to work independently on routine tasks while seeking direction for more complex assignments.

- Coordinate activities within programmatic area and/or department.
- Create, maintain, and execute detailed plans for small-to medium-sized activities, initiatives, and/or projects.
- Coordinate college personnel (possibly including outside personnel or industry partners) to support the planning, delivery, and execution of programs; coordinate schedules, hourly staff, materials, and participant documentation to ensure smooth operations and successful outcomes.
- Support essential operational coordination for department.
- May be expected to train, coach, direct, and coordinate assigned personnel while adhering to organizational human resource policies and procedures, as well as related employment laws.
- Serve as the initial point of contact for students seeking basic needs resources.
- Conduct intake assessments to understand student needs and connect them with appropriate services.
- Provide case coordination and follow-up to ensure continuity of care and service delivery, including advocacy with campus and community partners to address barriers to student success.
- Make informed recommendations for emergency funding support based on student need, eligibility, and available resources.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records in accordance with FERPA and institutional policy.
- Coordinate logistics for programs such as food pantries, emergency housing programs, and resource fairs.
- Support the management and distribution of emergency aid and gift cards.
- Assist in the tracking and inventory of supplies and donations.
- Maintain systems for tracking service usage, referrals, and outcomes (e.g., database, case management software).
- Generate reports and data summaries to support program assessment and improvement.
- Help design and distribute outreach materials (flyers, emails, social media posts).
- Conduct presentations or workshops for students, staff, and faculty about available basic needs resources.
- Participate in campus-wide efforts to raise awareness about student basic needs and destigmatize help‑seeking.
- Develop outreach strategies that are culturally responsive and reduce stigma around accessing basic needs support.
- Collaborate with campus departments such as Financial Aid, Health Services, Counseling, and Student Life.
- Coordinate with community organizations and social service agencies for off‑campus referrals.
- Attend relevant meetings and training to stay current on resources and best practices.
- Understand and apply administrative procedures, principles, and practices.
- Utilize organizing and planning practices.
- Operate learning management systems and web learning tools.
- Plan and manage events efficiently.
- Apply supervisory principles, practices, and methods.
- Understand the services and functions of educational institutions.
- Familiarity with issues related to college student success and barriers such as food/housing insecurity.
