Job Overview
Fort Bend County is seeking a procurement assistant to support procurement activities, vendor relations, financial management, and emergency preparedness. The role is essential to ensuring timely delivery of goods and services and maintaining compliance with county policies.
Responsibilities- Review and shop requisitions, and process them into purchase orders.
- Review and modify purchase orders.
- Provide public‑relations assistance in vendor and inter‑departmental interactions and input vendor information.
- Track or monitor budget expenditures and recommend equipment purchases.
- Confirm receipt of ordered merchandise when applicable.
- Assist other departments and end users with the financial and electronic content management system (ECM) and with problem‑solving.
- Assist other employees with their duties.
- Track and coordinate problems and resolutions related to contract terms and conditions when vendors fail to meet specifications.
- Review, resolve, and investigate buyer messages and accounts‑payable reconciliation messages in the financial system software.
- Receive and verify vendor insurance certificates when applicable.
- Review and process requests for creation, approval, and distribution through the enterprise content management (ECM) system.
- Participate in emergency‑management activities during a local state of disaster as directed by county managers.
- Assist with front‑desk duties.
- High‑school graduate.
- One (1) year procurement experience required; public‑sector experience preferred.
- Strong computer skills;
Microsoft Office
365 (Excel, Word). - Organizational skills with high attention to detail and ability to complete tasks in a timely manner.
- Math and accounting skills.
- Strong professional verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees, and elected officials.
- Working knowledge of Lawson Financial System preferred.
Starting salary range: $22.96 – $28.70 hourly based on qualifications.
