Contracted weekly rate: $640-$660
About The JobHead Senior Counselors, along with their co‑counselors, will be assigned to a group (bunk) of 15‑18 campers, based by grade, Kindergarten‑6th grade. Counselors will manage the daily routine and activities for their group. Head Senior Counselors are responsible for building relationships with and engaging campers in their care and executing the programmatic goals of camp. Head Senior Counselors will work closely with their supervisors to support and contribute to the success of their unit.
KeyDuties and Responsibilities
- Work together as a team with co‑counselors to ensure the daily schedule is implemented.
- Always set a behavior example for campers.
- Participate in all activities with campers.
- Switch out into swimwear and monitor campers in the swimming pool during all swim portions of the daily schedule.
- Ensure the safety and wellbeing of the bunk and campers.
- Manage the bunk clipboard and, in partnership with co‑counselors, complete written incident and accident reports as necessary.
- Collaborate with the supervisor on tasks supporting the overall unit, such as camper lunch logistics and assisting with program planning.
- For counselors working with Giborim (5th & 6th grade) drive Shalom Austin’s 15‑passenger van to transport children to and from field trips; a valid driver’s license is required.
- Other duties as assigned.
- At least 18 years old, have graduated from high school or obtained a GED by the start of camp, and have prior experience as a senior counselor at a summer camp.
- Must pass all criminal history background checks, including an FBI fingerprint check, and obtain a current CPR and First‑Aid certification.
- Head Senior Counselors are based out of the JCamps Office but will be expected to execute daily responsibilities throughout Shalom Austin’s campus. They must be on their feet for most of the day, frequently lift and/or move objects up to 20 pounds, and be able to work outside in Austin summer heat.
- Seasonal full‑time position: 8 AM‑4 PM Monday‑Friday, with opportunities until 5:30 PM. Seasonal work begins May 31 (orientation) and runs through July 31, with opportunities through August 14. Hours may change based on camp needs.
