The Plumbing Superintendent is responsible for leading and managing all on-site plumbing operations for commercial construction projects. This role ensures that plumbing work is executed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with project schedules, budgets, and quality standards. The Superintendent provides day-to-day field leadership, coordinates with general contractors and other trades, and drives crew productivity while maintaining compliance with all codes and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee all plumbing field operations on commercial construction job sites
- Supervise foremen, journeymen, apprentices, and subcontracted labor as needed
- Plan and manage manpower levels to maintain productivity and meet project milestones
- Coordinate plumbing scope with project management, general contractors, inspectors, and other trades
- Review and interpret construction drawings, specs, RFIs, and change orders
- Ensure installations meet company quality standards and applicable plumbing codes
- Lead weekly look-ahead planning and daily jobsite execution
- Track material deliveries, equipment needs, and labor hours to avoid delays
- Identify field issues early and implement solutions to keep projects moving
- Maintain accurate daily reports, safety documentation, and progress updates
- Enforce all jobsite safety policies and promote a culture of accountability
- Assist with testing, inspections, punch list completion, and final turnover
- Minimum 7–10 years of commercial plumbing experience
- At least 3+ years in a superintendent or foreman-level leadership role
- Strong background in commercial construction environments
- Extensive knowledge of commercial plumbing systems (underground, rough-in, trim, storm, sanitary, domestic water, etc.)
- Ability to manage labor efficiently while meeting schedule demands
- Skilled in reading blueprints, coordinating layouts, and solving field conflicts
- Strong communication and leadership skills with crews and project stakeholders
- OSHA 30 Certification (preferred)
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, or similar construction software a plus
- Backflow, medical gas, or specialty piping experience is a bonus
