My client, a well-established and highly respected

General Contractor in Austin, TX is seeking an experienced Estimator to support a robust and growing pipeline of commercial construction projects throughout Central Texas. This position offers the opportunity to play a critical role in the preconstruction process, contributing to the successful delivery of new build, remodel, and renovation projects across multiple market sectors.

The successful candidate will bring proven estimating experience working for a General Contractor and will have a strong background estimating complex projects within the healthcare, education, and municipal sectors, along with exposure to a broader mix of commercial work.

Project Types

The Estimator will be involved in a wide range of commercial projects, including but not limited to:

• Office (corporate offices, tenant improvements)
• Healthcare (medical office buildings, outpatient facilities, clinics)
• Industrial (light industrial, distribution, specialty facilities)
• Advanced Technology (data-driven and high-tech facilities)
• Civic & Community (municipal buildings, public facilities, community centers)

Projects will include ground-up construction, interior and exterior remodels, and complex renovation work, often within occupied or operational environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare comprehensive cost estimates from conceptual design through GMP and hard-bid phases
• Perform detailed quantity takeoffs from drawings, specifications, and design documents
• Analyze plans to identify scope gaps, constructability challenges, and cost risks
• Solicit, evaluate, level, and negotiate subcontractor and supplier bids
• Collaborate closely with preconstruction, project management, operations, and field teams
• Participate in value engineering, budgeting, and cost-control strategies
• Assist in preparing proposals, bid packages, and presentations for clients and stakeholders
• Maintain up-to-date cost data, historical pricing, and subcontractor relationships specific to the Austin market
• Support multiple bids simultaneously while meeting strict deadlines

Required Experience & Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of continuous experience working for a General Contractor
• 7+ years working as an Estimator in Commercial construction settings
• Proven estimating experience on commercial construction projects, with direct involvement in healthcare, education, and/or municipal work
• Demonstrated experience estimating new builds, remodels, and renovation projects
• Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, building systems, and local trade practices
• Proficiency with estimating software, takeoff tools, and Microsoft Excel
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contracts
• Strong organizational, communication, and analytical skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field
• Experience estimating projects in additional sectors such as office, industrial, advanced technology, or retail & entertainment
• Familiarity with Austin-area subcontractors, suppliers, and market pricing
• Experience working on projects with public-sector requirements and compliance standards
