Construction Specialist 1 (2026 New Grads!)
Job Site LocationTexas - Austin
Job DescriptionCDM Smith is looking for an excited candidate to join our team in Austin, TX. The role starts Fall 2026 and is ideal for new graduates entering the construction industry.
Responsibilities- Review project documents and prepare deliverables during the pursuit phase.
- Conduct pre‑bid site visits and assist in determining total project costs by evaluating complex proposals and researching labor, material, and equipment costs.
- Develop preliminary schedules for engineering and construction and write General Conditions based on bidding document requirements.
- Collaborate with the project team, subcontractors, client, owners, and other stakeholders to ensure timely and safe project completion.
- Coordinate material and equipment delivery with field personnel and vendors.
- Prepare and review submittals of increasing complexity, issue construction documents and layouts to field crews, answer questions, and respond to RFIs.
- Supervise and direct overall project activities of basic to moderate complexity and interpret specifications and drawings for foremen and superintendents.
- Conduct inspections to maintain Quality Control reporting for project sites.
- Work with Health and Safety professionals to evaluate safety performance metrics of subcontractors and vendors.
- Assist the Project Manager with project close‑out, including the completion of contract‑required deliverables, final record drawings, as‑builts, final inspections, punch list, and client satisfaction.
- Depending on project needs and after appropriate training, work with the VDC team to develop project capability needs and a VDC plan, and facilitate solutions through BIM and traditional collaboration methods.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
- 0 years of experience (new graduate).
- Domestic and/or international travel may be required; the frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties and project demands.
- Equivalent additional directly related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Basic computation skills.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Familiarity with technology typically associated with engineering and construction projects.
- Proficient knowledge of construction terminology.
- Ability to read and interpret construction documents and drawings.
- Intermediate level personal computer skills.
