Role Summary

The Project Manager 1 provides overall direction and leadership for a project or portion of a larger project in collaboration with the Project Superintendent. This role fully implements and manages the operation and administration, building lasting relationships with clients, design teams, and subcontractors, in support of JE Dunn’s strategy, vision, and values.

Key Role Responsibilities – Core
  • Lead all aspects of the company’s safety culture, demonstrate commitment to an injury‑free environment, investigate incidents, and retrain staff as needed.
  • Manage the JE Dunn pre‑start process.
  • Support pre‑construction team with quantity takeoff, trade coordination, scope development, bid package and schedule creation.
  • Lead plan and implementation of buyout schedule, verify pricing, confirm bidders, provide gap analysis, and manage issuance of subcontracts.
  • Manage submittal schedule, review and approve all shop drawings and samples prior to submission.
  • Ensure approved submittals are returned on time.
  • Coordinate with Logistics for pricing on materials and equipment.
  • Collaborate with risk management to secure bonding and approval for subcontractors.
  • Coordinate stakeholders: subcontractors, owner, field, design team, vendors.
  • Disseminate change requests, gather pricing, and confirm accuracy.
  • Obtain owner/architect approval for change requests.
  • Lead meetings: monthly project reviews, progress meetings, OAC meetings.
  • Complete monthly subcontractor and owner pay application process.
  • Prepare project schedule, utilize Lean principles, manage materials and labor logs.
  • Identify schedule impacts, facilitate mitigation plans.
  • Provide written documentation for decisions affecting budget, schedule, legal, quality, safety.
  • Provide regular reporting and analysis to communicate status and profitability.
  • Prepare monthly cost and margin forecast; review costs against budget.
  • Lead overall project closeout process using best practices.
  • Interface with region/company legal counsel.

Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering or related field.
  • Equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
Experience
  • 5+ years construction management experience.
Working Environment
  • Valid and unrestricted driver’s license required.
  • Must lift up to 25 pounds.
  • May require travel and/or relocation.
  • Must be willing to work non‑traditional hours.
  • May be exposed to extreme conditions.
  • Assignment may include project sites and/or office.
  • Frequent activity:
    Sitting, viewing computer screen.
  • Occasional activity:
    Standing, walking, bending, climbing, reaching above shoulder, pushing, pulling.
