Director of Construction | Residential Homebuilding | Austin, TX

$175,000 – $250,000 base salary + bonus and benefits

Blayze Group is partnering with a growing residential home builder delivering high quality, design led homes across Central Texas. The business operates across multiple active communities and is scaling, with a clear focus on disciplined production, strong customer experience, and operational consistency.

To support this growth, my client is appointing a Director of Construction to take ownership of field operations across the business. This role sits within the senior leadership team and is responsible for driving performance across build quality, cycle times, cost control, and customer satisfaction.

The company already has solid foundations in place. This hire is about strengthening execution, improving consistency across communities, and building a construction function that can scale without losing control of quality or margin. You will be leading teams, refining processes, and bringing structure to how homes are delivered across multiple sites.

The position is based in the Austin market and requires oversight of several active communities, with responsibility for aligning field execution with broader growth and operational objectives.

The Role
  • Lead construction operations across multiple residential communities, ensuring consistency in delivery, quality, and performance
  • Build, develop, and manage field leadership teams including superintendents, construction managers, and customer care personnel
  • Establish clear expectations around accountability, performance standards, and field execution
  • Oversee scheduling across all communities, ensuring realistic build durations, accurate forecasting, and improved production flow
  • Drive measurable improvements in cycle times, backlog management, and overall operational efficiency
  • Identify bottlenecks across labour, materials, or sequencing, and implement practical solutions
  • Maintain high standards across build quality, inspections, and compliance with plans and specifications
  • Implement and enforce standardized construction practices to ensure consistency across all sites
  • Conduct regular field reviews to assess performance and maintain quality benchmarks
  • Work closely with Purchasing and leadership to manage construction costs and improve trade partner performance
  • Monitor budget variance and identify opportunities for cost control and value engineering
  • Evaluate subcontractor reliability, capacity, and quality of delivery
  • Oversee customer care and warranty functions, ensuring a strong homeowner experience post completion
  • Reduce recurring defects and improve handover quality through better field execution
  • Provide clear, consistent reporting on key operational metrics including cycle time, starts vs completions, and warranty trends
  • Support leadership with planning around growth, staffing, and new community launches
Background Sought
  • 7+ years residential construction experience within a production or volume home builder
  • 3+ years leadership experience managing superintendents or field managers
  • Proven experience overseeing multiple communities simultaneously
  • Strong understanding of residential construction sequencing and scheduling systems
  • Experience improving operational performance across cycle time, quality, and cost
  • Credibility with both field teams and senior leadership
  • Comfortable operating in a business that is evolving and building structure as it scales
  • Experience refining or implementing construction processes and systems is highly advantageous
Why This Opportunity

This is a senior leadership role within a business that is actively growing and investing in how it delivers. You will have direct influence over construction performance, team structure, and operational standards across the company.

It suits someone who enjoys building order in a growing environment, improving field execution, and leading teams across multiple sites without losing sight of quality or customer experience.

There is real scope here to shape how the construction function operates as the business scales, rather than stepping into something already fully defined.
