Job Summary

The Solar Project Controls position is responsible for supporting the cost management, forecasting, progress measurement, production tracking, manpower analysis, and performance reporting of utility-scale solar projects. This role works closely with Project Managers, Construction Managers, Superintendents, Project Engineers, Preconstruction, Finance, and Operations leadership to provide accurate and timely information regarding project cost, production, labor, and overall performance. The primary objective of Project Controls is to provide project teams with reliable, forward-looking data that identifies trends early and allows project leadership to make informed operational and financial decisions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support project teams with cost tracking, forecasting, and Estimate at Completion (EAC) development. Track actual costs, committed costs, forecasted costs, and remaining costs against the project budget.
  • Maintain consistency and accuracy in project cost reporting.
  • Support the development and maintenance of project progress and production tracking. Monitor overall project performance against established project goals and expectations.
  • Analyze project data to identify trends, risks, and areas requiring additional attention.
  • Maintain historical project performance data to support future planning and continuous improvement.
  • Work with project and Operations leadership to evaluate staffing requirements. Support Operations with manpower forecasting across multiple projects.
  • Track pending and approved change orders and their impact on the project forecast. Maintain documentation supporting project cost impacts and entitlement. Ensure approved changes are properly incorporated into project budgets and forecasts.
  • Provide project and Operations leadership with visibility into overall project performance, cost, manpower, progress, risks, and opportunities. Maintain accurate data for executive-level project reporting.
  • Support development and maintenance of Power BI or similar reporting dashboards.
  • Participate in project handoff from Preconstruction to Operations. Establish Project Controls processes before mobilization.
  • Review estimate assumptions, production assumptions, labor assumptions, and overall cost structure.
  • Analyze project performance and identify trends that may impact final project profitability. Develop projections using actual project performance.
  • Develop historical benchmarks to improve future project planning and estimating.
  • Maintain accurate cost and performance records through project completion. Support final project cost analysis and closeout reporting. Compare final project performance against original assumptions.
  • Document key lessons learned related to project execution, productivity, manpower, and cost performance.
  • Provide actual project performance data back to Preconstruction and Estimating to improve future project assumptions.
  • Ability to travel to project sites as required.
