Overview
Is color theory, typography and the 7 rules of graphic design part of your vernacular, and do you know how to tell a story through motion and design? Austin’s top news operation, KXAN, has an immediate opening for an experienced & passionate senior designer who is trained and current with social media trends, design, typography and motion graphics. Given that we are a media company with a focus in high-end creative marketing, motion design skills and tracking & compositing in a 3D environment are vital and expert-level work should be clearly represented in your submitted portfolio.
News can be a fast-paced environment with sometimes tough deadlines. Experience in newsroom solutions and graphics workflows like Ross XPression & Chyron are an important part of this role.
- Collaborate with producers on conceptual / pre-production level to seamlessly integrate design / graphic elements with video to help elevate campaigns.
- Work within newsroom solutions and graphics workflows (e.g., Ross XPression & Chyron).
- Lead as a creative leader and team player with openness to critique and willingness to change course when needed.
- Produce motion graphics, tracking & compositing in a 3D environment; ensure expert-level work is represented in your portfolio.
- Partner with the team to brainstorm and execute high-end creative marketing aligned with KXAN campaigns.
- Expert-level proficiency in After Effects, Illustrator & Photoshop.
- Current with the growing set of AI tools available within these applications.
- Non-negotiable: strong foundational skills in the listed applications and motion design; this is not an entry-level position.
- Ideal candidate has experience with social media trends, design, typography, and motion graphics.
- Preferred:
Intermediate 3D software / Cinema 4D. - Experience with news environments and a track record in marketing/promotions is a plus; ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven setting.
- Availability for day shift with occasional flexible schedule; full-time, in-person role.
