About the role

The Graphic Designer & Digital Asset Manager is a key role responsible for shaping, producing, and maintaining the visual identity of The Contemporary Austin across platforms. This position ensures that the museum’s communications are visually compelling, consistent, and operationally efficient. This role supports both strategic initiatives and day-to-day creative needs by producing a wide range of materials that promote exhibitions, education programs, and institutional priorities.

The Graphic Designer & Digital Asset Manager works collaboratively across departments to translate ideas into effective visual communications that engage diverse audiences. In addition to creative production, this role manages the museum’s digital asset library, ensuring assets are accessible, up-to-date, and aligned with current brand standards. The position plays an important role in supporting and contributing to the evolution of the museum’s visual identity, including recent brand refresh efforts.

Duties

and responsibilities CREATIVE CONCEPTING & DESIGN EXECUTION (50%)
  • Design and produce a wide range of materials, including social media graphics, web graphics, email graphics, printed collateral, presentations, and exhibition related assets.
  • Manage multiple creative projects from concept through final production, ensuring timely, high-quality, and on-brand delivery.
  • Provide ongoing, day-to-day in-house design support, including quick-turn requests, updates, and design templates.
BRAND STEWARDSHIP & IMPLEMENTATION (25%)
  • Ensure consistent application of the museum’s visual identity across all platforms and materials.
  • Support the recent brand refresh initiative by translating updated guidelines into templates and other updated assets.
  • Maintain a high standard of visual quality and brand alignment across all creative outputs.
DIGITAL ASSET MANAGEMENT (15%)
  • Oversee the organization and maintenance of the museum’s digital asset library, including photography, video, and design files.
  • Develop and maintain file naming conventions, metadata standards, and organizational systems.
  • Ensure assets are properly archived, version-controlled, and easy to access.
  • Serve as a resource for locating and distributing assets for internal teams and external partners.
PRODUCTION & VENDOR COORDINATION (10%)
  • Prepare files for print and manage production processes with external vendors.
  • Review proofs and ensure final deliverables meet quality standards.
Skills and approach
  • Strong visual design skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in design software and tools including Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and Figma.
  • Apt communicator with strong writing and copy-editing skills.
  • Highly organized approach to file management and workflows.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment with the ability to self- direct and be proactive in completing assignments.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, including day-to-day and long-term projects, and meet deadlines. Experience with project management tools (Teamwork) and Microsoft Sharepoint / Teams a plus.
  • Collaborative and solution-oriented mindset.
  • Interest in contemporary art and commitment to supporting an inclusive and audience-focused organization.
Education and experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, communications, marketing, or related field.
  • 5+ years of professional design experience, including project management from concept through production.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating a range of print and digital work.
  • Experience working within established brand systems; experience supporting brand refresh efforts preferred.
  • Experience in a museum, cultural organization, or arts-related environment preferred.
Physical requirements
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends as needed for events as needed.
