Multimedia Brand DesignerFull Time Austin, TX, US
3 days ago Requisition
Magpul lives or dies on how it shows up, in the inbox, on the shelf, in the ad, on the page. The Multimedia Brand Designer owns that surface end to end. The role designs emails, builds packaging comps, cuts the display ads, lays out the blog, and picks up the camera when the shot needs to exist. The role will produce work;
not just spec it. The role requires a design generalist with real craft, fluent in layout, type and hierarchy who understands firearms and why a bad prop choice reads as fake to our users.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Email Design. Build campaign and lifecycle emails in Figma, from concept to production-ready layout, applying real design theory – grid hierarchy, contrast, restraint. Mobile first, single column, image-forward.
- Design, layout, manage assets of internal communication documents to brand guide specs.
- Packaging. Product packaging mockups and comps for new product launches – die lines, front-of-pack layout, spec panels, in coordination with product and brand. Adjust current packaging as required. Design new packaging options when needed.
- Display advertising. Design display and static ad units across sizes and placements, keeping the system coherent while adapting to each format’s constraints.
- Web. Design (not write) blog post layouts and supporting graphics in Word Press environment – turn draft copy into pages that tell stories and do not betray the brand.
- Translate or re-envision artistic works, and vintage and historical images.
- Camera. Shoot product and supporting lifestyle photography and short-form video as needed. Perform edit through to delivery. Actively taking photos; not just directing.
- Sales enablement. Design deliverables for the sales team – product one-sheets and spec sheets that present real specs cleanly and read as coherent set across categories.
- Brand consistency. Keep every asset on-system and on-voice across channels, working from and contributing to brand and design standards.
- Assist with design of internal communications needed.
- Must be able to work in various types of environments while taking pictures to include outdoor environments in various types of weather.
- Travel up to 20%
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education/Experience Requirements:
- Graduate of a leading graphic design program; can be offset by experience.
- At least five years of graphic design experience is preferred.
- Strong resume and portfolio that includes: email, packaging, digital ads, and web layout with evidence of design-theory command.
- Experience designing for a regulated or restricted-category brand preferred.
Job
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Expert Figma skills and production-ready workflow (components, auto-layout, handoff).
- Expert Adobe creative suite and Listrak skills.
- Working knowledge of the constraints of each format: email client rendering, print/packaging prepress basics, ad-spec discipline, Word Press layout.
- Strong typography skills and knowledge of contemporary design.
- Must be a truly creative self-starter and also have a more advanced understanding of multi-dimensional design (e.g. 3D).
- Experience with motion graphics and 3D rendering capabilities a plus.
- Firearms literacy and cultural fluency – must know the products, the vernacular, and the difference between authentic and costume.
- Must be competent with using a camera and able to light and shoot clean product work and capture usable field/lifestyle contact.
- Strong ability to edit photos.
- Knowledge of print production required.
