Job SummaryThe Railroad Commission of Texas administers public sales and customer service functions related to oil and gas records. The Customer Service Representative will process record requests and payments, provide customer assistance, and maintain financial and record data integrity.
Key Responsibilities- Respond to customer inquiries and requests by telephone, email, or in person.
- Receive, record, and audit large sums of money collected from record research copies and permit fees.
- Process POS credit card transactions and checks.
- Prepare receipts and receive cash when applicable.
- Verify data entered into the cash receipt system and assign program codes.
- Provide customer service as needed.
- Conduct independent job‑related research and seek solutions to issues.
- Assist the public in accessing and researching Commission records.
- Perform additional tasks assigned to maintain workflow.
- Assist with data entry of revenue into the agency's revenue database (as needed).
- Knowledge of professional office protocol and procedures.
- Skill in using Microsoft Office, mainframe terminal operations, and other Windows-based PC software.
- Skill in basic mathematical operations, reading/writing comprehension, and professional business writing.
- Skill in communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Attention to detail and high accuracy.
- Telephone front desk customer service etiquette.
- Ability to learn oil and gas policy and procedures and interpret processes.
- Ability to file, sort, alphabetize, organize, and retrieve documents.
- Operation of a copy machine and general office equipment.
- Excellent customer service in a public environment; perform duties under pressure while meeting deadlines.
- Physical ability to reach, lift, and move up to 30 lbs.
- Work independently and in a team.
- Availability Monday‑Friday, 8 AM – 5 PM.
- Direct customer service experience with financial transactions.
- One or more years of relevant professional experience, including handling large sums of money.
- General knowledge of Oil and Gas Division functions.
- Detailed familiarity with forms and filing procedures.
- Bachelor's or advanced degree in a customer service‑related field.
Ability to reach high and low, open and retrieve files, operate computer equipment, stand, walk, sit or stand for long periods, lift up to 30 lbs, and bend as necessary.
