Position Type: Part-Time, up to 30 hours/week, Non-Exempt; occasional evenings and weekends
Salary: $14–$18 per hour, commensurate with experience
Reports To: Director of Operations & Facilities
Location: Houston, Texas (on-site)
About the MuseumThe Buffalo Soldiers National Museum preserves and shares the stories and contributions of the African American military experience through its permanent collections, exhibitions, educational programming, and performing and visual arts.
Position SummaryThe Guest Services Coordinator is the Museum's front-line point of contact, ensuring every visitor, English- or Spanish-speaking, has a welcoming, well-run experience from the moment they arrive. This role manages daily front desk operations, ticketing, and membership processing, and requires bilingual fluency to serve BSNM's diverse visitor base and surrounding community.
Key Responsibilities- Serve as the first point of contact for visitors, greeting and assisting guests in both English and Spanish.
- Manage front desk operations, including ticketing, admissions, and visitor check-in.
- Process membership sign-ups, renewals, and general inquiries.
- Provide way finding and general information about exhibits, tours, and Museum programs.
- Coordinate group check-ins and hand off visitors to docents and gallery guides as needed.
- Support daily opening and closing procedures for guest-facing areas.
- Monitor and respond to visitor feedback to help improve the guest experience.
- Assist with gift shop transactions and inventory as needed.
- Communicate scheduling needs and visitor volume updates to the Director of Operations & Facilities.
- Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish required.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work weekends and occasional evenings as needed.
- Prior experience in guest services, visitor services, retail, or hospitality preferred.
- Comfort with ticketing, point-of-sale, or membership software (training provided).
- Genuine interest in African American history and BSNM's mission.
