The position provides highly skilled technical expertise and oversees multiple design and complex building construction projects. Reports to a licensed professional engineer or registered architect who has final approval authority for projects. Work requires contact with governmental agencies, consultants and construction firms. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.
EssentialDuties
- Reviews and oversees plan packages submitted by consultants.
- Coordinates design work among TxDOT entities, consultants and contractors.
- Reviews and compiles complete plan packages for submission to the responsible engineer or architect for review and signature.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
- Develops and prepares consultant work orders and agreements.
- May lead project or planning activities of professional and technical employees or consultants.
- Receives project assignments, determines work requirements to complete project plans and coordinates scheduling to accommodate projects already underway.
- Serves as lead worker and subject matter expert.
- Designs projects, making design calculations and sketches of plans, layouts and typical sections.
High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
Minimum Qualifications – Experience- Design Project Coordinator II: 8 years Design, plan preparation, construction inspection, surveying.
- Design Project Coordinator III and IV: 9 years Design, plan preparation, construction inspection, surveying.
(Experience can be satisfied by full‑time or prorated part‑time equivalent. Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.)
Licenses and Certifications- Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
- Mandatory:
Safety Impact Certificate.
- Applicable computer software applications and hardware.
- Contract development and management policies and procedures.
- Performing basic design and drafting.
- Using computers, applicable programs, applications, and systems.
- Maintaining a safe and effective working relationship with others.
- Design and plan preparation methods and requirements.
- Preparing and maintaining confidential and sensitive records, files, and reports.
- Leading, assigning, reviewing, and monitoring the work of others.
- Negotiating settlement of differences without damaging relationships; applying effective questioning and listening techniques to determine other parties’ positions in a direct and diplomatic manner.
- Applying engineering principles, practices, and methods in job responsibilities.
- Light work:
Lift up to 20 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs. - Standing – prolonged periods of time.
- Repetitive Motion – substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- Close Visual Acuity – work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading.
- This job has been identified as physically demanding and will require a pre‑employment physical.
- Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions. This is a Safety Impact position and will be subject to random drug testing.
