Position Summary

The Plumbing Detailer collaborates closely with the BIM Design Manager and project managers to prepare detailed drawings and models that support the efficient installation of plumbing systems. This role is responsible for annotating Revit models, producing shop and spool drawings, and preparing digital layout files that allow field crews to begin layout with accuracy and efficiency. The Plumbing Detailer ensures that installing crews have clear, precise drawings and 3D models that support high-quality production and streamlined project execution.

Key Responsibilities
  • Revit Modeling & Annotation:
Annotate Revit drawings with pipe sizes, elevations, dimensions, slopes, and other key installation notes. Ensure drawings clearly communicate installation requirements to field crews. Collaborate with the BIM Design Manager and project managers to maintain model accuracy and constructability.
  • Shop Drawings & Spool Drawings:
Produce shop drawings and spool drawings that support fabrication and installation of plumbing systems. Ensure drawings meet company standards and clearly communicate fabrication and installation requirements.
  • Layout & Field Support:
Prepare and organize digital layout files used by field crews. Assist crews in establishing initial layout, offsets, and control points to begin layout activities. Support field teams with accurate 3D models and drawings to improve layout precision and productivity.
  • CAD & File Management:
Export Revit models to CAD and manage CAD file exports. Perform drawing cleanup and reduce CAD file sizes for efficient use in the field. Insert and align building drawings (architectural, structural, and plumbing) into civil CAD files when needed, particularly when multiple buildings exist on one site. Prepare CAD files for use with total station layout equipment.
  • Digital Coordination & Data Management:
Maintain organized digital records of layout files, control points, and drawing revisions. Upload drawings and Navisworks models to cloud-based platforms for field access. Ensure all layout and coordination files are properly structured and accessible for field crews.

  • Knowledge and understanding of plumbing systems and construction drawings.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and MEP plans.
  • Experience preparing shop drawings, spool drawings, or fabrication drawings.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with field teams, project managers, and BIM staff.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting total station layout workflows.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based construction collaboration platforms such as Autodesk Construction Cloud and BIM 360 Glue.
  • Experience working with MEP contractors or plumbing subcontractors.
  • Knowledge of construction layout practices and field installation methods.
