TECHNICAL ARCHITECT

McKinney York Architects is a concept-driven design firm that believes in the power of people and places to enrich lives. Recipient of both the AIA Austin and Texas Society of Architects Firm Awards, our goal is to connect people to each other and the world around them by creating architecture that engages, inspires, and belongs. We work on a wide variety of project types from residential to academic, religious, commercial, and civic.

For this position, we are seeking an inspiring individual with a preferred experience level of 10+ years to provide technical support to our staff, and to manage our quality assurance and quality control efforts. Applicants should be problem solvers that are enthusiastic, patient, and driven. The ideal candidate will be an exceptional communicator with the desire to be in a creative and collaborative office.

• Perform quality control reviews of contract documents at milestones
• Collaborate with design teams on detailing, design coordination, and code compliance
• Mentor developing staff
• Incorporate sustainability initiatives into project reviews
• Contribute to the standard detail library
• Investigate quality related issues and make recommendations

• Understanding of the IBC, IECC, NFPA 101, and TAS
• Understanding of the City of Austin Land Development Code
• Extensive experience with institutional construction and detailing
• Professional degree in Architecture
• Commitment to all aspects of sustainability

We have a flexible work schedule, and typically work 40-45 hours per week with additional hours during crunch times. All employees are equipped with laptops, webcams and video conferencing services to participate in project meetings, client meetings, weekly staff meetings, happy hours, training, and design critiques. We utilize technology to provide a highly-effective and well-connected work experience. The health and well-being of our staff is our highest priority.
