Job Description Summary

The Software Development & Computer Science Faculty supports learning on campus and all distance learning modalities for both associate and bachelor degrees. Responsible to prepare and deliver coursework in engaging, innovative, discipline-appropriate ways that reflect a commitment to student success and creating an environment that promotes belonging for all. This position starts in August 2026.

Job Description

The Software Development & Computer Science Department offers on campus, online, and dual credit courses across Central Texas. This faculty position will provide quality instruction teaching students on subject matters that encompass data science, computer programming, software development, and web development to support students preparing to transfer or enter the workforce.

Principal Responsibilities And Duties

  • Prepare and teach courses in Software and Web Development to a multicultural student population based on approved learning outcomes, using various instructional strategies.
  • Participate in departmental governance, including curriculum review, program review, assessment of student learning outcomes, and other departmental activities.
  • Evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedback reflecting program learning outcomes and departmental expectations.
  • Serve as a mentor to students in the Software and Web Development program.
  • Provide teaching and mentoring services in a non‑discriminatory manner.
  • Remain current in the field through professional development activities.
  • Support division and department goals through active collegial engagement in decision‑making and unit‑level planning.
  • Serve on college wide and departmental committees, councils, work groups, and task forces.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the department chair, dean, or associate vice chancellor.

Technology

  • Demonstrated proficiency using computer applications, online resources, and other technologies for the classroom.
  • Proficiency using an online learning management system such as Blackboard to develop and build course content and perform administrative duties.
  • Proficiency in latest programming languages.

Principal Professional Standards

  • Appropriate use of the college's learning management system.
  • Meet deadlines for attendance certification and final course grades.
  • Participate in graduation, general assembly, and other official college functions.
  • Maintain regular office hours to assist students and improve retention.
  • Attend and participate in college wide, campus, department, or other activities and meetings.
  • Recognize and reflect standards of civility and collegiality in all interactions.
  • Comply with published college policies and procedures and meet professional standards for teaching in a community college.

Required Education

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Computer Information Technology, Computer or Software Engineering; or
  • Computer-based Information Systems (e.g., management, decision, data-processing) or Network Security; or
  • Master's degree with 18 graduate hours in these disciplines (SACSCOC requirements may differ).

Required Work Experience

  • Three years of non‑teaching, industry‑related work experience in the Computer Science and Information Technology field, specifically related to computer programming, software development, and web development (SACSCOC requirements may differ).
