Job Description Summary /ObjectiveIn preparation for the next academic year 2026-27, Magellan International School (Colegio Internacional Magallanes) in Austin, Texas, is seeking a Bilingual Spanish Lead Teacher to work in our Spanish immersion upper primary school. The teacher will create a progressive learning environment where students demonstrate critical thinking and uphold the attributes of the International Baccalaureate (IB) learner profile. The teacher will support students' academic and personal development while contributing to extracurricular and community activities.
EssentialFunctions
- Plans and teaches lessons following the IB Primary Years Program (PYP) curricula, differentiating for individual student needs.
- Works collaboratively with the teaching assistant to deliver learning experiences.
- Provides day‑to‑day monitoring and support to the teaching assistant, including sharing daily program plans and discussing goals for children.
- Attends staff/faculty meetings, supports colleagues, and collaborates with the PYP Coordinator on curriculum planning and program effectiveness.
- Utilizes a variety of teaching strategies and technologies.
- Participates in curriculum planning and student progress meetings with parents and the Student Support Resources Team (SSR).
- Maintains high standards for academic performance and behavior.
- Fosters an engaging learning environment that promotes critical thinking, problem‑solving, and creativity.
- Creates a Spanish immersion environment in the classroom.
- Actively supervises students during carline, recess, breaks and lunch.
- Organizes educational field trips to support the curriculum.
- Communicates professionally with parents about student progress, collaborates with parents of high‑needs students, and establishes positive relationships with families.
- Works with the Room Parent to plan and participate in parent activities.
- Serves as a role model for students by dressing professionally, adhering to the school’s policy, demonstrating the importance of learning, accepting responsibility, and showing pride in the education profession.
- Encourages students to set individual goals and maintains a safe, creative learning environment.
- Participates in fundraising and marketing efforts to support the school’s growth.
- Promotes the school’s mission and builds relationships with community partners.
- Works collaboratively with the other grade teachers to plan engaging “End of the Unit Celebrations”.
- Supports the 5th grade PYP Exhibition as a mentor every other year.
Performs other duties as assigned, which may change at any time with or without notice.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education or a Bachelor’s Degree in an unrelated field with Teacher’s Certification.
- Experience working with elementary‑age students in a classroom setting.
- Communicates effectively in English and Spanish, both orally and in writing.
- Experience or training in the IB Primary Years Program (PYP) preferred.
- Knowledge of curriculum development, program evaluation, instructional strategies, classroom management, and learning assessments.
