The top half of the posted salary range is generally reserved for candidates who exceed the requirements and qualifications for the role.

Position Overview

The At-Risk State Coordinator is a leader who performs highly advanced consultative services and technical assistance work for the Highly Mobile and At-Risk student groups. This includes serving as the state’s Foster Care Point of Contact and leading Foster Care & Student Success, Pregnancy-Related Services, and At-Risk program requirements. The At-Risk State Coordinator also supports other Unit activities such as Military Connected Purple Star Campus Designation (PSCD), Texas Education for Homeless Children and Youth (TEHCY) program, other unit priorities and activities.

The At-Risk State Coordinator reports to the HMAR Manager and supports the vision and mission of the HMAR unit.

The At-Risk State Coordinator provides programmatic and technical support to agency staff, Education Service Centers (ESCs), Local Educational Agencies (LEAs), school personnel, and other stakeholders assisting students in foster care, pregnant and parenting students, and other identified at-risk groups. This role involves developing tools, resources, and professional development to address the needs of highly mobile and at-risk students. As a team-oriented leader, the Coordinator collaborates extensively with internal and external stakeholders, including the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services and the Children’s Commission.

Their work focuses on cross-agency policy development, training, and resource guidance to meet federal and state foster care requirements. Additional responsibilities include implementing the Foster Care and Education Summit and other professional development initiatives to increase awareness for vulnerable student populations. Operating under minimal supervision, this position demands substantial initiative and independent judgment.

Business needs may shift the role and essential job functions for this education specialist position. The individual serving in this position is expected to adapt to shifting business priorities as long as any revised duties are within the same job classification title.

Flexible work location within the state of Texas may be considered for qualified candidates.
