Primary
Purpose:
Assist the school principal in overall administration of instructional program and campus level operations. Coordinate assigned student activities and services.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Master's degree
Texas principal or other appropriate Texas certificate
Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS) or PDAS certification preferred
Special Knowledge/
Skills:
Thorough understanding of school regulations and operations including ARD, 504, and LEP
Strong background in curriculum and instruction
Ability to coordinate campus support operations
Ability to evaluate instructional program and teaching effectiveness
Ability to implement policy and procedures
Ability to interpret data
Ability to use computer software effectively
Excellent organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
Two (2) years experience as a classroom teacher, five (5) years preferred. One (1) year experience in a campus administrative role (i.e. administrative intern or instructional coach).
Prior secondary school assistant principal and/or testing coordinator experience preferred.
Major
Responsibilities and Duties:
* Monitor instructional processes to ensure that program activities are related to outcomes and use findings to take corrective actions when necessary.
* Provide instructional resources and material needed to accomplish instructional goals.
* Establish clear expectations for staff performance with regard to instructional strategies, classroom management, and communication with the public.
* Foster collegiality and team building among staff members. Encourage their active involvement in the decision-making process.
* Support the common vision for school improvement with staff. Direct planning activities and implement programs to ensure attainment of school's mission.
* Communicate effectively with students, staff, parents and community.
* Participate in development of campus improvement plans with the principal, staff, parents, and community members.
* Assist the principal in establishment of campus performance objectives in developing the Campus Improvement Plan, using the campus planning process and involving the site-based decision making committee.
* Ensure students are adequately supervised during non-instructional periods.
* Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior.
* Ensure school rules are uniformly applied and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and the Student Handbook.
* Conduct conferences (Academic, Behavioral, Special Services), on student and school issues with parents, students, staff and law enforcement.
* Assist the principal to select, train, supervise, and evaluate staff and make recommendations relative to assignment, retention, discipline, and dismissal.
* Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences. Serve as an appraiser for designated teacher appraisal system.
* Supervise operations in principal's absence.
* Assist with maintenance of facilities to ensure a clean, orderly and safe environment.
* Assist with planning and supervising daily school activities by participating in the development of class schedules, teacher assignments, and extracurricular activity schedules.
* Supervise reporting and monitoring of student attendance and work with attendance clerk on follow-up investigations.
* Serve as the Campus Testing Coordinator, with duties including staff training, state assessment preparations and administration.
* Requisition supplies, textbooks, and equipment; check inventory; maintain records; and verify receipts for materials.
* Assist with safety inspections and safety-drill practice activities.
* Coordinate transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other support services.
* Serve as campus UIL Coordinator, organize UIL coaches, practice and contest preparation.
* Comply with all federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, and board policy.
* Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment.
* Articulate the school's mission to community and build support in realizing the District's mission.
* Demonstrate awareness of school-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs using appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
