Position: Student Support Counselor for Upper School

Description

Hyde Park Schools seeks to hire a full-time Upper School Student Support Counselor for students 9th through 12th grades. Preferred candidates will have a passion for working with students in a collaborative community that encourages each child to meet his or her own potential. Qualified candidates will have a Master’s Degree in Counseling or Social Work or a related field, and either state issued School Counselor’s Certificate in the appropriate grade levels and/or professional licensure in the field of counseling or social work.

All Hyde Park faculty and staff are expected to commit to continued professional growth to meet the needs of the 21st-century classroom through educational articles, research, and professional development opportunities.

Requirements Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide short-term counseling for students experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, peer or family conflict, significant life transitions, and related issues that impact the school day
  • Deliver developmentally appropriate psychoeducation to students and parents
  • Assess students’ mental health, risk factors, and overall well-being; develop and implement appropriate interventions
  • Respond to crisis situations, including conducting risk assessments, safety planning, and mandated reporting
  • Serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team supporting students’ academic, physical, social, and emotional needs
  • Support students and families with academic accommodations and diagnosed learning differences
  • Consult and collaborate with teachers and staff regarding students’ social, emotional, academic, and personal growth
  • Maintain communication with parents, teachers, administrators, and relevant stakeholders regarding student academic and wellness concerns
  • Collaborate with Lower School and Middle School Student Support Counselors
  • Facilitate and participate in school-wide initiatives related to mental health and the Christian faith
  • Adhere to professional boundaries, ethical standards, and confidentiality
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
