Job Description
Summary:
Responsible to prepare and deliver 2D Animation coursework in engaging, innovative, and discipline‑appropriate ways that reflect a commitment to success equity, an understanding of culturally responsive teaching, and knowledge of the teaching field. Meets professional standards for faculty in accordance with college policies and procedures.
The Game Development, Animation, and Motion Graphics Department trains students for the local and national job market. This position will teach 2D Animation courses to workforce and transfer students, guiding them to produce portfolio‑worthy work.
Principal Responsibilities and Duties- Prepare and teach courses in the field of 2D Animation to a diverse student population based on the department's approved course learning outcomes, using a variety of instructional strategies appropriate to community college students and the disciplinary standards.
- Evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedback reflecting program learning outcomes and departmental expectations.
- Provide teaching and mentoring services to students in a non‑discriminatory manner.
- Remain current in the field through professional development activities.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by department and campus leadership.
- Teach introductory and advanced 2D Animation classes to workforce and transfer students.
- Instruct in ways that reflect a commitment to success equity, respect for diversity, and culturally responsive teaching, in accordance with college policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate proficiency using Adobe Photoshop, Clip Studio Pro, Toon Boom Harmony, Storyboard Pro, and other classroom technologies, as well as an online learning management system such as Blackboard for course content development and administrative duties.
- Appropriately use the college's learning management system.
- Meet deadlines for attendance certification and grade submission.
- Participate in graduation, general assembly, and other official college functions.
- Maintain regular office hours to assist students and improve retention and success.
- Attend and participate in college‑wide, campus, department, or other activities and meetings.
- Observe standards of civility and collegiality in all interactions.
- Comply with published college policies, procedures, and professional teaching standards.
- Associate degree in 2D Animation or a related discipline (Game Design; Creative Writing; Film Production; Programming; Studio Art; Animation).
- Bachelor's degree in 2D Animation, Concept Design, or Character Design with a strong emphasis in 2D Animation or Fine Art Studio Art.
- Three years of non‑teaching, industry‑related experience within the 2D Animation industry.
- Ethics, integrity, and sound professional judgment.
- Commitment to positive working relationships with diverse students, colleagues, and staff.
- Dynamic, non‑traditional instructional methods for varied proficiency levels.
- Up‑to‑date knowledge of the discipline and subject matter.
- Experience using technology to enhance learning.
- Documented experience with active teaching and learning methodologies.
- Strong commitment to community‑college teaching, understanding multicultural classrooms.
- Commitment to a culture of care for all.
- Effective communication with students of diverse backgrounds.
- Strong interpersonal skills for collaboration.
- Excellent verbal, written, and listening communication.
- Organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to maintain schedules, including evenings, weekends, and multiple campus locations.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality of student information.
- Understanding of teaching in a community college that often serves underprepared and underrepresented students.
- Routine work performed in a classroom or laboratory setting.
- Standing, walking, sitting, and reaching for extended periods.
- Follow safety rules and report unsafe conditions or behavior.
