Ameri Corps Peer Mentor Coach will serve in a Quarter Time (QT) capacity during a 10-month term of service from August 2026 – May 2027. Applicants should possess a sincere interest in empowering youth and a passion for higher education. Applicants should possess strong interpersonal, organizational, and research skills to assist College Possible Texas with providing college completion services to more than 3,000 collegians and improve and build the sustainability and success rate of the program in order to serve a rapidly increasing number of college students and graduates.

These members will each serve more than 450 hours to help expand college access for low-income and first‑generation students while gaining professional skills and earning an Education Award upon successful completion of term requirements. Together, these individuals will work closely and plan strategically to meet organizational objectives in a timely manner. Peer Mentor coaches will be expected to build and maintain congenial professional relationships internally and externally and will represent College Possible Texas to the public.

Successful applicants will possess a sincere interest in helping empower other youth to pursue higher education.

NOTE:

Mandatory pre‑service orientation will take place during the first week of service. Members are also required to meet for staff meetings on a monthly basis. This position will have recurring access to vulnerable populations. In addition, all Ameri Corps members are required to be easily identifiable as Ameri Corps Members. Members must wear the Ameri Corps logo, visibly, daily.

In the event of a local, state, or federal disaster declaration, Ameri Corps members may be asked on a volunteer basis or be required by One Star to activate to assist in disaster response and recovery activities within their communities. This may involve virtual service opportunities or in‑person service opportunities. This may include service opportunities outside of the member's standard service hours or in place of their standard service duties.

In the event of a large‑scale, high‑needs local, state, or federal disaster, Ameri Corps members may voluntarily or be required by One Star to deploy to an area outside of their service area to assist in disaster response and recovery activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Plan and host campus events with support and coordination with Success Coaches and identify and promote existing campus events
  • Research program‑specific needs and conduct outreach to other College Possible Texas students
  • Meet with students in person on campus and/or virtually to provide direct college transition mentoring and support in areas including, but not limited to: freshman orientation, acclimating to college life and coursework, alignment with major and career interests, social life, and connection with campus‑based resource
  • Collaborate with Success Coaches to mentor and develop tailored strategies for supporting portfolio of students
  • Conduct research, provide referrals, arrange meetings, and accompany students to appointments as necessary
  • Serve as a College Possible Texas student ambassador, collaborating with staff to communicate the mission to external partners and supporters
  • Assist College Possible Texas staff and leadership team with program design improvement
  • Represent the organization to school personnel, professional organizations, educators, funders, and the public
  • Ensure program compliance with administrative policies and procedures, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
  • Serve 12–15 hours a week on site
