Job DetailsSupports the daily operations of a high-enrollment teaching lab course, ensuring that materials, equipment, and spaces are prepared for hands‑on student activities. Manages inventory, restocks supplies, monitors equipment, and oversees the proper handling of biohazardous and chemical waste. Trains and coordinates undergraduate and graduate teaching assistants and directly assists students during lab activities. In collaboration with the lead instructor, contributes to the design and testing of lab activities to improve student learning outcomes.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in a scientific field.
- Biology coursework, upper‑division science courses, or work experience in a biological laboratory setting.
- Solid understanding of modern cell, molecular, and organismal biology concepts and experience using modern biology laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
- Experience making solutions.
- Responsible individual with good judgment and demonstrated interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrated problem‑solving and critical thinking skills.
- Self‑starter with the ability to work well within a fast‑growing team environment and with minimal daily supervision.
- Ability to multi‑task, be well organized, execute excellent time‑management skills, and pay careful attention to details, as well as have excellent communication skills.
- Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in the biological sciences.
- Five years of experience in a natural sciences field.
- Experience procuring and maintaining lab equipment and materials.
- Experience and knowledge in lab safety protocols and waste disposal; experience supervising and training others in a work setting.
- Experience teaching or assisting in an introductory biology laboratory setting, including guiding students through basic laboratory techniques, safety practices, and experimental procedures.
$44,000
Working ConditionsBasic engineering and/or scientific equipment ordinarily used in college laboratory work. Standard office conditions. May work around chemical fumes, biohazards, chemicals, and electrical and mechanical hazards. Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation; use of manual dexterity, climbing of stairs, lifting and moving.
