Overview
Austin Achieve Public Schools is a tuition‑free, open‑enrollment public charter school preparing Austin youth to attend and excel at the nation’s top colleges and universities.
Ameri Corps Reading Specialist RoleAustin Achieve Public Schools seeks full‑time Ameri Corps Reading Specialists for its Elementary, Middle, and High schools. Specialists will implement a unique reading intervention curriculum to support students who are reading below grade level.
Roles & Responsibilities- Implement the Fountas & Pinnell Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI) program and/or the Systematic Instruction in Phonological Awareness, Phonics, and Sight Words (SIPPS) intervention program.
- Conduct one‑on‑one quarterly assessments of scholar progress.
- Lead daily small‑group sessions (2–3 students, 30–45 minutes) using evidence‑based strategies.
- Facilitate additional literacy activities such as book check‑outs, read‑alouds, high‑frequency word practice, letter name and sound practice, and similar activities during summer school.
- Participate in weekly staff meetings, monthly campus meetings, and regular meetings with the Program Director and Ameri Corps cohort.
- Review scholar progress quarterly with the Program Director to ensure on‑grade‑level reading goals and identify gaps in program implementation.
- Track and report on program success through attendance, academic, social, and emotional learning progress, and scholar engagement.
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree.
- Consent to a criminal history check.
- Ability to live in Northeast Austin, Manor, or Pflugerville and engage with the local community.
- Commitment to wearing the Ameri Corps logo during all service.
- Full‑time Ameri Corps member: 1,700 service hours per year.
- One‑year appointment with an option for a second year, contingent on mutual agreement.
- Training with the Ameri Corps and Special Programs Director before placement.
- Health insurance coverage.
- Segal Education Award $7,395.00 (eligible upon completion).
- Forbearance on eligible student loans.
- Support with childcare costs.
In the event of a local, state, or federal disaster declaration, Ameri Corps members may be asked to activate on a volunteer basis or be required by One Star to assist in disaster response and recovery activities within their communities. This may involve virtual or in‑person service opportunities outside of standard hours.
