Position: Director of Curriculum and Instructional Excellence, Humanities (3rd-5th)

The Director of Curriculum and Instructional Excellence leads the work of strengthening teaching and learning across KIPP Texas schools, with a focused emphasis on campuses in transformation. This role is anchored in three core priorities: professional learning, deep curriculum expertise, and high-impact instructional coaching.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as a content and curriculum expert within an assigned grade band and subject area, ensuring clear understanding of KIPP Texas's adopted high-quality instructional materials and supporting execution to excellence (e.g., Amplify Texas, Amplify ELAR Texas, HMH Into Literature).
  • Develop deep expertise in curricular frameworks and ensure fidelity, rigor, and alignment to standards.
  • Design and facilitate high-quality professional learning for teachers and school leaders; plan and lead professional development experiences to strengthen content knowledge and instructional capacity.
  • Provide direct, job-embedded coaching to teachers and instructional leaders, including modeling instruction, classroom observations, actionable feedback, and coaching capacity building.
  • Use data-driven progress monitoring and sustained professional learning structures to advance instructional excellence and improve student outcomes across campuses.
  • Support portfolio of schools in meeting STAAR targets, contributing to student growth and school ratings, including achieving A or B ratings and reading/math STAAR targets.
  • Focus on transformation: support schools with significant instructional transformation, holding high expectations for leaders and teachers.
  • Demonstrate instructional expertise in curricular frameworks, pedagogy, and instructional materials; experience with KIPP Texas curricular products.
  • Lead instructional improvement efforts on transformation schools through PLCs, classroom observations, and actionable feedback.
  • Provide coaching to transform primary and secondary schools by partnering with school leadership, coaching assistant principals, observing instruction, and developing actionable strategies for improving instruction.
  • Support teachers in setting clear, measurable instructional goals and provide ongoing guidance and professional development.
  • Establish and maintain positive, growth-oriented relationships with teachers and leaders.
  • Lead small group instruction during Crescendo season as needed.
  • Plan and co-lead weekly content team meetings, lead practice clinics, and provide resources to support evidence-based instructional strategies.
  • Engage in continuous data analysis and action planning; support leaders and teachers with progress monitoring and data practices; craft organization-wide improvement plans as needed.
  • Coach leaders and teachers on data practices, including daily data dives, exit ticket trackers, and other formative assessment processes.
  • Speak to formative student outcome data to support regional coaching and response plans.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree;
    Master’s degree in Education preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as an assistant principal, school leader, or instructional coach.
  • Proven track record of instructional growth.
  • Deep knowledge of content and pedagogy in a specific content area; experience as a content expert in K-5 ELA/SS, 6-8 ELA/SS, or 9-12 ELA/SS.
  • Experience implementing curricular products such as Amplify Texas, Amplify ELAR Texas, HMH Into Literature, SAVVAS, or McGraw Hill.
