Job Summary:
The College and Career Coordinator is responsible for guiding students in grades 6-12 through academic, postsecondary, and career planning. This role supports students by providing counseling, resources, and programming to help them prepare for and transition into college, technical programs, careers, or military service. The coordinator ensures equitable access to postsecondary pathways and collaborates with faculty, staff, families, and external partners to develop and implement comprehensive college and career readiness initiatives aligned with Texas Empowerment Academy's mission and TEA requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
* Providing a broad-based curriculum combining basic skills with fine arts, multicultural studies, self-awareness & self-development courses, leadership skills, athletics, science, engineering, and computer technology.
* Giving individualized attention in small classroom settings.
* Promoting enthusiasm for work and the acquisition of knowledge.
* Encouraging students in a sense of duty and responsibility to themselves and their community.
* Producing graduates who exceed the basic requirements for functioning effectively in society.
* Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
* Develop and implement a comprehensive college and career readiness plan for students in grades 6-12.
* Coordinate and facilitate individual and group college and career counseling sessions.
* Provide students and families with information regarding high school graduation requirements, postsecondary options, financial aid, scholarships, FAFSA, SAT/ACT, and career pathways.
* Plan and execute college and career fairs, college field trips, guest speaker events, and military and industry visits.
* Create and maintain partnerships with colleges, universities, trade schools, military recruiters, and local employers.
* Assist students with college applications, essays, recommendation letters, and resume development.
* Monitor and support the implementation of individual graduation plans (IGPs).
* Serve as the school's liaison for college access organizations and scholarship providers.
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records in alignment with state and federal guidelines.
* Track student progress and outcomes related to postsecondary enrollment, completion, and career placement.
* Collaborate with teachers and administrators to integrate career readiness into academic instruction.
* Coordinate CTE (Career and Technical Education) support services and opportunities where applicable.
* Ensure compliance with all TEA and federal college and career readiness mandates and grant requirements.
* Prepare reports and documentation as needed for audits, funding, and school accountability.
* Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
* May require occasional weekend or evening work to support student events, family workshops, or postsecondary programming.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, career development, or related field.
* Minimum of two years of experience working with secondary students in a counseling, advising, or career development capacity.
* Strong understanding of college admissions, financial aid, workforce pathways, and career readiness standards.
* Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
* Knowledge of TEA guidelines, HB3 college and career readiness measures, and CTE requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Master's degree in School Counseling, Education Leadership, or Career Development.
* Texas School Counselor Certification.
* Experience with Naviance, Overgrad, or other college planning tools.
* Bilingual in English and Spanish.
Travel:
* Infrequent, local travel required for college visits, conferences, and professional development.
Normal Work Hours and Days:
Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-4:30 PM
* Some evening and weekend events required.
