Overview
This is not a teaching role. This is about motivation. Alpha School uses AI-driven applications for student learning with no lectures or textbooks. The role focuses on life-skills coaching and student motivation within K-8 cohorts.
What You Will Be Doing- Facilitating one-hour life-skills workshops for K-8 cohorts, covering public speaking, focus, feedback exchange, and other foundational skills. Modify the existing playbook and create new sessions as needs are identified.
- Conducting daily individual and small-group motivation sessions to drive students toward their weekly app targets, using Coachbot analytics, Alpha rewards, and personal relationships to overcome resistance.
- Administering Test2
Pass (Alpha s mastery-based life-skills assessment) and coaching students who do not achieve passing scores until mastery is demonstrated. - Adjusting coaching approaches across a broad age range from kindergarteners to 8th graders, balancing dynamic engagement with direct conversation and accountability.
- Analyzing weekly cohort performance metrics in Coachbot, identifying students behind targets, and recalibrating coaching tactics for the upcoming week based on data insights.
- Delivering traditional instruction at a whiteboard; academic content is embedded in the apps.
- Creating a full curriculum from scratch; starting with an established playbook and personalizing it.
- Passively monitoring students on devices; motivation is hands-on and individualized.
- Working through layers of approval to secure support for students in need; you decide and implement when extra coaching is required.
- Grading assignments or handling broad parent outreach;
Campus Leads manage parent communication.

Portland, OR (relocation support available). - Bachelor's degree in any field.
- Minimum of 3 years of direct experience working with K-8 students (including classroom teaching, coaching, tutoring, camp counseling, or youth program leadership).
- A concrete example you can describe of motivating a K-8 student toward a challenging goal: the objective, your actions, and the result.
- Comfort with AI delivering academic instruction while you concentrate on motivation and life-skills development.
- Authorization to work in the US without requiring visa sponsorship.
- Background in youth sports coaching, debate, camp leadership, theater, or after-school programs with direct responsibility for driving measurable goals.
- History of personal excellence that supports holding others to rigorous standards.
- Narrative skill and stage presence capable of engaging a room of 12-year-olds for an hour without raising your voice.
- Demonstrated success transforming disengaged or reluctant students into participants.
