Library Associate

Summary

Minimum Starting Salary: $18.43 hourly—depending on qualifications.

Work schedule:

Tuesday – Saturday.
Tuesday‑Wednesday: 11:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Thursday‑Saturday: 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent
• At least one month of customer service experience

• Some college coursework
• Experience in a public library setting
• Spanish language proficiency

Library Associates provide quality services to the public, assisting patrons in person and via telephone.

• Use library systems to locate, checkout, and process materials; register borrowers, collect fines, and generate statistics.
• Assist patrons with library equipment, including copier, fax, online catalog, and public computers.
• Provide reference and readers’ advisory assistance.
• Shelve library materials and help patrons locate them.
• Maintain the cleanliness and order of the library.
• Assist librarians in preparing and presenting programs.
• Handle opening and closing procedures.
• Take lead responsibilities in the Branch Manager’s absence.
• Follow ALA principles regarding censorship and confidentiality.
• Be available to report to a different location within 30 minutes as needed.
• Work days, evenings, weekends, and Sunday afternoon if required.
• Travel to city facilities for meetings and coordination as needed.
