LEAD Mentorship Program

Overview

The Leadership, Education and Development (LEAD) Program:

• Equips students with essential skills that last a lifetime
• Opens doors to endless opportunities for growth, connection, and success
• Inspires students to explore higher education opportunities and discover their career passions
• Strengthens our community by empowering more students to graduate and thrive in the workforce
• Engages local businesses in shaping the next generation of leaders
• Transforms lives by giving students the tools and confidence to create brighter futures for themselves, their families, and generations to come

in scholarships awarded to 130+ students since 2010

Business professionals complete an application and are matched with between two and four high school sophomores, juniors or seniors. Twice a month during the school year, mentors visit with their students to take them on industry tours and/or events (planned by the Greater Waco Chamber) and build relationships with them until they graduate (and beyond). Mentors provide as much support to their students as needed.

Responsibilities

• Commit to the development of students with leadership potential who need guidance and encouragement in their pursuit of higher education and career goals
• Share expertise and leadership skills by encouraging and assisting in the development of students
• Make the time (twice monthly during the school year) and commitment (three years) to contribute to the lives of students

• Becoming a LEAD mentor
• Becoming a LEAD sponsor
• Becoming a LEAD student
• Hosting a LEAD tour
• Funding a LEAD scholarship
• Other

There is no cost to the students who participate in LEAD. Sponsors help underwrite the costs associated with providing shirts, meals and more to these young leaders.

LEAD scholarships allow us to make a difference in the lives of students who may otherwise not have the opportunity to attend college.
