Job Summary

The campus ministry intern is responsible for working closely with the Campus Minister specifically with details related to, but not limited to:
Silent Retreats, Service Expo, Busy Longhorn Retreat, Senior Retreat and the Men’s Vocation Pilgrimage. The intern reports to the Campus Minister and operates with wide latitude for the use of independent judgement and initiative. The position is open for the  academic year.

Ministerial Character

The Chaplain is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the University Catholic Center (UCC), which the Bishop has entrusted to him. He makes Christ’s mission present and enduring at the UCC. In order to fulfill his mission, the Chaplain employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people). He shares with them his mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.

Positions employed at the University Catholic Center help to extend the ministry of the Chaplain in particular ways as outlined in the job description. Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the Chaplain in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the Church.

Job Duties
  • Supporting and upholding the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of the University Catholic Center in both your professional and personal life.
  • Acting as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Communicating regularly with the Campus Minister and attending meetings as needed.
  • In addition to being available in assisting the Campus Minister, the responsibilities listed under the following programs constitute the majority of the intern’s work.
Silent Retreat (Fall & Spring)
  • Overseeing marketing, including tabling on one Sunday for all Masses
  • Maintaining an up-to-date listing of students attending retreat and ensuring they have contributed to the retreat
  • Coordinating transportation for students attending retreat
  • Attending the Silent Retreat and assisting the Campus Minister with various details during the retreat
Service Expo (Fall)
  • Overseeing marketing
  • Coordinating the physical arrangement for the program
  • Keeping an up-to-date listing of organizations who will be attending
  • Shopping for snacks needed for program
  • Welcoming guests and being present throughout the program
Busy Longhorn Retreat (Fall)
  • Overseeing marketing, including tabling on one Sunday for all Masses
  • Organizing the schedule for: rooms, spiritual directors and students attending retreat
  • Shopping for opening night and closing night snacks
  • Arranging the rooms for spiritual direction, and check each day
  • Attending the opening and closing sessions
Senior Retreat (Spring)
  • Overseeing marketing, including tabling on one Sunday for all Masses
  • Maintaining an up-to-date listing of students attending retreat and ensuring they have contributed to the retreat
  • Coordinating transportation for students attending retreat
  • Shopping for supplies needed for retreat
Men’s Vocation Pilgrimage (Spring)
  • Overseeing marketing, including tabling on one Sunday for all Masses
  • Maintaining an up-to-date listing of who is attending
  • Assisting in the details related to travel
Requirements Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of the University Catholic Center.
  • Knowledge of the role of the Campus Minister in the mission of the UCC
  • Skill in welcoming students and giving a joyful witness of Christian discipleship.
  • Skill in inviting students to participate in the various campus ministry programs
  • Ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the pastoral team and student leaders
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and utilize effective time management techniques.
  • Ability to carry out multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to follow instructions in verbal or written format.
  • Ability to effectively use standard office communication technology.
Minimum Qualifications Education and Trainings
  • Current student at UT Austin for the  academic year
  • Proficiency in computer use
