Job Summary

The Communications Intern is responsible for assisting with the strategic and administrative tasks related to the Catholic Center’s communications and marketing. The position reports to the Director of Evangelization and Communications and operates with some latitude for the use of independent judgment and initiative. The Communications Intern holds a commitment to the continuous improvement of service quality and the UCC’s mission.

Position is for the  calendar year. Pay is $14/hour with no more than 10 hours of work per week.

Ministerial Character

The Chaplain is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the University Catholic Center (UCC), which the Bishop has entrusted to him. He makes Christ’s mission present and enduring at the UCC. In order to fulfill his mission, the Chaplain employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people). He shares with them his mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.

Positions employed at the University Catholic Center help to extend the ministry of the Chaplain in particular ways as outlined in the job description. Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the Chaplain in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the Church.

Job Duties
  • As an integral part of your ministry for the Church as carried out in this position, support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of the University Catholic Center in both your professional and personal life.
  • Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.
Meeting Attendance Expectations
  • Bimonthly strategy & formation meetings with direct supervisor
  • Lead monthly meetings with LCC outreach heads & campus liaisons
  • Develop a strategic plan for engaging college students on campus through outward-facing events and tabling
  • Identify student population that we are trying to reach with our outreach efforts
  • Create a “persona” for the connector archetype on campus
  • Brainstorm potential outreach events
  • Determine which events would best reach the “connector persona”
  • Talk about any concerns or trends that may be hurting the image of the UCC on campus
  • Create Program Plans for all outreach events & management timelines
  • Check-in on how tabling sign-ups are going
Tabling & Fall Outreach Efforts
  • Spearhead beginning of the year freshman outreach
  • Collaborate with John

  • Organize tabling/events during Freshman Summer Orientation
  • Attend Ignite tabling event(s) at the beginning of the year
  • Assist with Evangelization Workshop [August 20]
  • Assist Director of Evangelization & communications in developing a tabling training & recruiting student volunteers for weekly tabling
Outreach Events
  • Assist campus liaisons & FOCUS in hosting 1-2 Greek outreach events and 1-2 Varsity outreach events each semester
Track trends in Sunday Mass attendance
  • Work closely with direct supervisor to Develop a strategy for post-Fall Outreach & Ash Wednesday retention at Sunday Mass
