Description Job Summary

The Assistant Liturgy Intern for Sacraments is responsible for assisting with administrative duties for OCIA and Confirmation classes. The Assistant Liturgy Intern reports to the Liturgy Intern and operates with little latitude for independent judgment and initiative. The position is for the  academic year.

Ministerial Character

The Chaplain is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the University Catholic Center (UCC), which the Bishop has entrusted to him. He makes Christ’s mission present and enduring at the UCC. In order to fulfill his mission, the Chaplain employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people). He shares with them his mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.

Positions employed at the UCC help to extend the ministry of the Chaplain in particular ways as outlined in the job description. Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the Chaplain in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the Church.

Job Duties
  • Send reminders via Flocknote and handle communication via email
  • Manage OCIA/Confirmation attendance, and sacramental records
  • Gather and review sacramental records prior to conferral of the sacraments
  • Create name tags, print certificates, and get records to Development & Operations Manager to submit to St. Austin

  • Ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality.

  • Ability to carry out multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to effectively use standard office communication technology.
Minimum Qualifications Education and Trainings
  • Current student at UT Austin for the  calendar year
Experience
  • Coordinating events and/or programs
  • Group project management
Language
  • English (proficient in conversing, reading, and writing)
Catholic Requirement
  • Must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing.
Licenses/Certifications
  • Valid Texas driver’s license
  • Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies throughout the employment period.
Working Conditions
  • Schedule flexibility: it is expected that this position will average 5-7 hours per week, with some exceptions requiring more time, including Holy Week, some solemnities, and major liturgical events.
  • Working in a fast-paced environment with priorities and plans that may change rapidly.
  • Working on weekends and evenings may be required.
  • Will be exposed to religious ceremonies, conduct, and speech, including Roman Catholic prayer and liturgical celebrations.
  • All employees of the University Catholic Center are engaged in ministry and closely tied to the Chaplain in the exercise of his ministry and obligations to the Church.
  • The UCC is an at-will employer.
  • All buildings and vehicles owned by the UCC are tobacco-free.
  • Will be required to adhere to established dress codes and conduct standards.
  • May be required to use personal vehicle to drive to off-site locations.
  • Traveling outside the UCC to meetings and other events may be required, and travel may require overnight lodging.
