Job Description

Primary

Purpose:

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

Minimum Qualifications

Education/Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsement for subject and level assigned, or approved alternative certification program
  • Must hold ESL certification or obtain ESL Certification by February of the school year in which you are hired.
  • Candidate must have a satisfactory outcome of the fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50) paid by employee.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Demonstrated competency in the academic subject area assigned
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to research and develop teaching units
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Experience

  • Student teaching or approved internship, or related work experience
Major Responsibilities and Duties

Professionalism

  • Adhere to the Educators' Code of Ethics set forth in the Texas Administrative Code, including Rules §247.1 and §247.2.

Instructional Management

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the district curriculum program and provide written evidence of preparation.
  • Prepare lessons that accommodate differences in student learning styles.
  • Present subject matter according to federal regulations, Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, materials, and equipment reflecting students’ diverse needs.
  • Collaborate with other teachers to modify curricula for students with Special Education, 504, or Bilingual needs.
  • Work with staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods per district requirements.
  • Assess student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  • Use technology to strengthen teaching and learning processes.

Student Growth and Development

  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities when assigned.
  • Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.

Classroom Management and Organization Improvement

  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning, appropriate for students’ physical, social, and emotional development.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and the handbook.
  • Taken necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.

Communication and Community Relations

  • Serve as a positive role model for students and support the district mission.
  • Establish and maintain open communication with parents, students, principals, teachers, and support staff through conferences.
  • Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Use effective communication to present information accurately and clearly.

Professional Growth and Development

  • Participate in national and state-level organizations to stay abreast of research and best practices.
  • Attend professional development opportunities related to the designated subject area.
  • Read, synthesize, and disseminate research and information related to best practices from various media.
  • Attend meetings and participate in staff development to improve job-related skills.

Qualities of Effective Teachers

  • Daily attendance and punctuality.
  • Compliance with state, district, and school regulations and policies.
  • Compile, maintain, and file required reports and records.
  • Attend faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Correct unsafe conditions and inform supervisor when uncorrectable.
