- Remains current in evidence-based instructional practices for students with visual and additional impairments and shares related strategies with staff
- Consults with and coaches teachers in Explicit Instruction and Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
- Provides training in PBIS and other topics.
- Works closely with students’ assigned Behavior Specialists to support teachers with implementation of PBIS and Behavior Intervention Plans.
- Supports teachers in designing sequenced lessons with aligned materials and measurable outcomes.
- Coaches teachers in establishing classroom procedures including predictable routines that promote engagement, positive classroom culture and effective instruction.
- Models instructional strategies and may co-plan or co-facilitate lessons to strengthen clarity and consistency.
- Participates in observation/feedback/coaching cycles with guidance and coordination with Assistant Principal and Lead Teacher.
- Consults with teachers regarding development and implementation of IEP goals, accommodations, assessment practices, and following TSBVI procedures and systems (e.g., Skyward, Curriculum Department resources, TEKS Resource System).
- Participates with Multi-Tiered Systems of Support student teams.
- Completes or supports completion of Functional Vision/Learning Media Assessments and Low Vision evaluations. Ensures that evaluation recommendations are implemented.
- Ensures that critical information for Student Care Summaries related to vision is completed for all assigned students.
- Continues professional growth and development; participates in all assigned staff development training.
- Attends work regularly in accordance with TSBVI leave policy and procedure.
- Complies with all agency policies, procedures and handbooks.
- Performs related work as assigned.
- May include the following duties if assigned:
- Serves as a Professional Learning Community (PLC) lead.
- Serves as the mentor for teacher interns obtaining Special Education or Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments (TSVI) certification.
- Serves as the TSVI for assigned students with classroom teachers who have not yet obtained TSVI certification.
- Coordinates communication and planning with local school district representatives, families and TSBVI staff members — from student acceptance to TSBVI to return to the local school district — to ensure successful collaboration according to the school’s procedures.
- Assures that written plans for collaboration with local school district representatives and families are developed as a part of the enrollment process, implemented and updated as needed.
- Completes and monitors collaboration and documentation logs, contact information, and Out of District Placement Input forms.
- Coordinates visits between local school districts and TSBVI to observe student programming before, during and after enrollment at TSBVI.
- Coordinates, and may accompany students with, experiences visiting local school districts as needed (perhaps a few days per month).
- Coordinates follow up collaboration efforts with local school district instructional teams for one school year after a student’s return to the local district.
- In collaboration with the Transition Coordinator, may facilitate transition to adult life planning and activities for each assigned student.
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university [Applicant selected for hire will be required to submit a copy of all college or university transcripts].
- Must have Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments (TSVI) certification.
- Skill in working cooperatively and effectively in a team model of service delivery and working with diverse groups of students, parents and staff members.
- Skill in implementing effective positive behavior intervention and support programs for students with visual and multiple impairments.
- Master’s degree in related field
