NCAA Division II | Lone Star Conference Assistant Coach - Cross Country & Track and Field - Sprints/Hurdles Athletics Department
St. Edward's University invites applications for the position of Assistant Coach - Cross Country & Track and Field (Sprints/Hurdles Program). The Assistant Coach will support the success of the men’s and women’s cross country and track & field programs through coaching, recruiting, student‑athlete development, and program operations, with primary responsibility for the sprints/hurdles event groups.
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Sports Management, or Exercise Science.
- At least 2 years in coaching and/or competing in cross country and track & field, preferably at the NCAA level.
- Strong background in coaching multi‑events and/or sprints, hurdles and jumps.
- Strong background in recruiting.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication, administrative, and organizational skills.
- Basic familiarity, appreciation, and understanding of the role of intercollegiate athletics and its relationship to the university, with the ability to effectively interact with student‑athletes, alumni, coaches, parents, and other constituency groups important to the advancement of athletics ard's University.
- Highly motivated with the ability to work independently within an intensely goal‑oriented environment.
- Ability to successfully pass the NCAA Recruiting Examination within one month of hire.
- Successful completion of an employment and/or criminal background check is required.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- USTFCCCA Track & Field Technical Certification or higher.
- Knowledge of NCAA Division II and Lone Star Conference rules and regulations.
- Ability to mentor and develop student‑athletes academically and athletically.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and relationship‑building skills.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and travel is required.
- Lead the training, programming, and development of the sprints and hurdles event groups.
- Provide technical instruction, race strategy, and performance analysis for student‑athletes.
- Recruit and retain qualified student‑athletes.
- Monitor student‑athlete academic progress and personal development.
- Assist with team operations, travel, fundraising, equipment management, and compliance reporting.
- Support the Head Coach with all aspects of program administration.
- Working weekends and evenings is required; this position requires non‑traditional hours.
