Position Summary:
Texas Empowerment Academy is seeking a knowledgeable and student-centered Special Education Coordinator to oversee and support the implementation of Special Education services across PreK-12th grade. The Coordinator will ensure compliance with federal, state, and local Special Education requirements while providing leadership, guidance, and support to Special Education staff, administrators, and families.
The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, extensive knowledge of Special Education laws and best practices, and a commitment to ensuring students with disabilities receive a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE).
Key Responsibilities:
* Ensure district compliance with IDEA, Section 504, ADA, Texas Education Code, and TEA Special Education requirements.
* Oversee the implementation and monitoring of Special Education services, IEPs, and student records across PreK-12.
* Coordinate compliance monitoring, audits, corrective actions, and state reporting requirements.
* Monitor student progress and program effectiveness through data analysis and continuous improvement practices.
* Support the implementation of evidence-based interventions, accommodations, and inclusive instructional practices.
* Ensure students receive services in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) appropriate to their needs.
* Facilitate and support ARD/IEP meetings, ensuring legal compliance and meaningful parent participation.
* Coordinate referrals, evaluations, reevaluations, and eligibility determinations with campus teams and service providers.
* Provide guidance to staff regarding IEP development, progress monitoring, accommodations, and modifications.
* Supervise, coach, and evaluate Special Education teachers, paraprofessionals, and related service providers.
* Plan and deliver professional development related to Special Education compliance, instructional practices, and behavior supports.
* Serve as the primary liaison between families, school personnel, and community agencies regarding Special Education services.
* Support parents throughout the Special Education process and address concerns in a timely and professional manner.
* Promote collaborative relationships that support student achievement and well-being.
* Collaborate with campus administrators and instructional leaders to improve outcomes for students receiving Special Education services.
* Participate in district leadership initiatives and strategic planning to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree required.
* Valid Texas Special Education EC-12 Certification required.
* Minimum of three years of successful Special Education teaching experience.
* Experience facilitating ARD meetings and developing IEPs.
* Strong knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, TEA Special Education requirements, and compliance procedures.
* Experience supervising and coaching adults preferred.
* Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to build collaborative relationships with students, families, staff, and community partners.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Master's degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field preferred.
* Five or more years of Special Education experience.
* Experience serving in a Special Education leadership role.
* Knowledge of MTSS, PBIS, UDL, and inclusive instructional models.
* Experience with charter school operations and compliance.
* Experience coordinating Special Education budgets and federal program requirements.
