Job Description

Primary

Purpose:

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills for successful functioning in society, and prepare them for post‑secondary readiness through CTE activities, first‑hand industry experiences, off‑campus internships, and IBC testing.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsement for subject and level (or approved alternative certification program)
  • ESL certification (preferred)
  • Successful background check (fingerprinting)
  • Required to be trained to drive district non‑CDL vehicles; district provides safety training

Knowledge /

Skills:

  • Demonstrated competency in the assigned academic subject area
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to research and develop teaching units
  • Ability to instruct students and manage classroom behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • General knowledge of the industry related to assigned program of study

Experience:

  • Student teaching, approved internship, or related work experience
Major Responsibilities and Duties

Professionalism

The Educators' Code of Ethics, as set forth in the Texas Administrative Code, governs standard practices and ethical conduct toward students, colleagues, school officials, parents, and the community.

Instructional Management

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill district curriculum requirements and provide written evidence of preparation.
  • Prepare lessons accommodating differing student learning styles.
  • Present subject matter following federal regulations, the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Plan and use instructional strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that address diverse student needs.
  • Collaborate with other teachers to modify curricula for students with special needs (Special Education, 504, Bilingual).
  • Work with staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods as per district requirements.
  • Assess student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  • Use technology to enhance the teaching/learning process.
  • Implement all safety rules and procedures for the program of study.

Student Growth and Development

  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned.
  • Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
  • Prepare students for post‑secondary readiness in their chosen program of study.
  • Provide internships, IBCs, job shadowing, field trips, and competitions.

Classroom Management and Organization Improvement

  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning that supports the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and the student handbook.
  • Treat precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.

Communication and Community Relations

  • Serve as a positive role model for students and support the district mission.
  • Maintain open communication with parents, students, principals, teachers, and support staff through conferences.
  • Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  • Foster relationships with community partners.
  • Participate in and promote the CTE advisory board.

Professional Growth and Development

  • Participate in national and state organizations to stay current on research and best practices.
  • Attend professional development opportunities related to the designated subject area.
