Faculty, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine
The Veterinary Technology Faculty Veterinarian provides veterinary care while delivering high‑quality instruction, mentorship, and academic support to a student population in the Veterinary Technology Program. This position combines clinical practice with classroom, laboratory, and clinical teaching responsibilities, ensuring compliance with program accreditation standards and course learning outcomes.
Principal Responsibilities and Duties- Provides veterinary care to primarily small animals.
- Prepares and teaches courses in the Veterinary Technology Department to a multicultural student population based on the program's approved course learning outcomes and accreditation standards.
- Participates actively in departmental responsibilities and governance, including curriculum review, program review, assessment of student learning outcomes at the course and program level, and other departmental activities.
- Evaluates student progress and provides clear, timely feedback reflecting program learning outcomes and departmental expectations.
- Serves as a mentor and faculty advisor to students in the Veterinary Technology program.
- Provides teaching and mentoring services to students in a manner which does not discriminate based on protected categories.
- Remains current in the field and subject matter of courses taught through a variety of professional development activities.
- Supports division and department goals through active and collegial engagement in decision‑making and unit‑level planning.
- Serves on college wide and departmental committees, councils, work groups, and task forces.
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by department leadership.
- Maintains professional development goals and portfolio in accordance with program accreditation standards and college policies.
- Participates in opportunities to promote the program and profession.
- Participates in evening and weekend on‑call duties.
- Demonstrated proficiency using computer applications, online resources, and other technologies for the classroom.
- Demonstrated proficiency using an online learning management system such as Blackboard to develop and build course content and perform administrative duties.
- Appropriate use of the college's learning management system.
- Meeting deadlines for attendance certification and submission of final course grades.
- Participation in graduation, general assembly, and other official college functions.
- Maintaining regular office hours to assist students and improve student retention and success.
- Attending and participating in college wide, campus, department, or other activities and meetings.
- Recognizing and reflecting standards of civility and collegiality in all interactions.
- Complying with published college policies and procedures and meeting professional standards for teaching in a community college.
- Alignment with Austin Community College values of Courage, Compassion, Joy, and Yes.
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine with current Texas licensure.
- Three years of relevant non‑teaching work experience as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.
- Ethics, integrity, and sound professional judgment.
- A commitment to establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with students, colleagues, and staff representing multicultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Dynamic, non‑traditional instructional delivery methods to teach students of widely varying levels of proficiency and from various backgrounds and abilities.
- Appropriate and up‑to‑date knowledge of the discipline and subject matter.
- Experience using technology as an instructional aide where appropriate to enhance learning.
- Documented experience with active and applied teaching and learning methodologies.
- Strong commitment to teaching in a community college setting, including teaching practices that reflect an understanding of the multicultural classroom.
