About NYOS
NYOS, an acronym for "Not Your Ordinary School", is a public charter school with two campuses located in North Austin. NYOS educates the whole student. We foster a collegial PreK-12 program that challenges each learner with rigorous academics, innovative strategies, and expectations for civic engagement.
Role Description
This position supports Grades Pre-Kindergarten through Fifth.
Qualifications:
Texas Principal's certification required
Bachelor's Degree required
Master's degree in education, education administration or related field preferred
Instructional Leadership Development (ILD) or Advancing Educational Leadership (AEL) certification preferred
Education administration experience preferred
Three years teaching experience preferred
Knowledge and
Skills:
Principles and practices of school administration including but not limited to:
Thorough understanding of school operations
Strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
Ability to coordinate campus support operations
Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction including but not limited to Marzano's High-Reliability Schools framework, Professional Learning Communities, Teaching with Love & Logic, and Restorative Practices
Ability to support and evaluate instructional programming and teaching effectiveness
Ability to manage budget and personnel
Ability to coordinate campus functions
Ability to implement policy and procedures
Ability to analyze and interpret data
Major
Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Management/Leadership
Provide leadership in the development and evaluation of educational programs.
Encourage and support the development of innovative instructional programs, helping teachers and staff pilot such efforts when appropriate.
Promote the use of technology in the teaching/learning process.
Participate in the development of campus improvement plans with staff, parents, and community members.
Assist with the development, monitoring, and use of information systems to maintain records and to track progress on-campus performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.
School/Organizational Climate
Promote a positive, caring climate that reflects an orderly, purposely active, and pleasant place of well-directed learning and interpersonal caring.
Hold the belief that each student can and will perform up to high standards of achievement and behavior.
Communicate effectively with all stakeholders.
Articulate the school's mission to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
Demonstrate awareness of school-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.
Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
Personnel Management
Consistently apply the principles of instructional leadership.
Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences.
Serve as second appraiser for designated teacher appraisal system.
Assist the principal in interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staff.
Participate and assist in the coordination of instruction.
Participate and assist in the coordination of staff development
Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management
Supervise operations in principal's absence.
Assist with the development of daily school activities including planning and coordination of class schedules, teacher assignments, and extracurricular activity schedules.
Supervise reporting and monitoring of student attendance and work with the attendance clerk on follow-up investigations.
Participate in the development, management, and implementation of the approved school budget; report all activities to the principal as appropriate.
Work with elementary teacher leaders and faculty to compile annual budget requests based on documented program needs.
Requisition supplies, textbooks, and equipment; maintain textbook and instructional resources inventory; maintain records, and verify receipts for materials.
Assist with state and district assessment coordination.
Assist with Response to Intervention (Rti), Section 504, and Admission, Review, Dismissal (ARD) meetings.
Lead and maintain elementary LPAC processes.
Assist with safety inspections and safety-drill practice activities.
Coordinate transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other support services as required.
Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, and board policy.
Student Management
Assist with the implementation of student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior and increased academic achievement.
Ensure that students are appropriately supervised at all times including during non-instructional times/events.
Ensure that school expectations are fairly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable.
