Position: 2026-27 Science Instructional Lead, High School
Role Overview :

Austin Achieve Public Schools is seeking a high-performing Science Instructional Lead to join our team. This role blends excellent classroom instruction with targeted instructional leadership. The ideal candidate will teach four sections of science (AP Environmental Science and/or Biology/Chemistry) while coaching and developing a team of four science teachers. This position is designed for educators who have demonstrated exceptional student outcomes and are ready to extend their impact beyond their own classroom.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Instructional Excellence (Teacher Responsibilities):

* Teach four sections of science, which may include AP Environmental Science and/or Biology/Chemistry, based on campus needs

* Internalize and deliver rigorous, TEKS-aligned and College Board-aligned instruction

* Use data-driven practices to monitor student progress and adjust instruction to ensure mastery

* Create a classroom culture of high expectations, strong routines, and academic urgency

* Administer and analyze assessments to drive student achievement, particularly toward AP and STAAR success

* Build strong relationships with scholars and families to support academic growth

Instructional Leadership (Coaching Responsibilities):

* Coach and develop a team of four science teachers through weekly observation and feedback cycles

* Support teachers in lesson internalization, planning, and execution of high-quality instruction

* Model effective instructional strategies, including rigor, questioning, and student discourse

* Analyze student data across classrooms to identify trends and provide targeted coaching

* Lead or support content team meetings, including data analysis and instructional planning

* Plan and facilitate professional development aligned to observed needs and best practices

* Support the implementation of aligned science curriculum and assessments

Collaboration & School Leadership:

* Collaborate with the Instructional Leadership Team to align on goals, data, and instructional priorities

* Contribute to school-wide initiatives, events, and culture-building efforts

* Support systems for assessment tracking, material preparation, and instructional consistency

* Model and uphold the Austin Achieve staff culture pillars

Qualifications (Required):

* Bachelor's degree required;
Texas teaching certification in a relevant subject preferred

* TIA designation (Recognized, Exemplary, or Master) or at least two years of verifiable, strong student academic outcomes

* Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching diverse student populations

* Strong instructional expertise, classroom management, and data analysis skills

* Ability to build relationships with scholars, families, and staff

* Alignment with Austin Achieve's mission and a "whatever it takes" mindset

Additional Considerations (Preferred):

* Four or more years of teaching experience, particularly in high school science

* Experience teaching AP Environmental Science, Biology, or Chemistry

* Prior experience coaching teachers or leading instructional teams

* Familiarity with instructional coaching frameworks (e.g., T-TESS, Get Better Faster)

* Experience leading professional development sessions

* Proven success supporting emergent bilingual learners

* Spanish fluency

* Willingness to do "whatever it takes" to ensure all scholars succeed

Physical Demands:

* Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and engage actively with scholars for extended periods

* Lift and carry up to 25 pounds regularly, occasionally up to 50 pounds

* Maintain energy and stamina throughout the school day

* Respond quickly to student needs and maintain emotional control under stress

* This role is in-person and not eligible for remote work
