Job DescriptionThe Grab & Go Cafe Coordinator coordinates and manages the operation of the student-run campus cafe as a structured, supervised Career and Technical Education training environment for Deaf and hard of hearing students. The position provides structured workplace instruction, supervises daily cafe operations, and supports students in developing employability skills, customer service, food preparation and food service.
The coordinator designs and implements meaningful on-campus work experiences for students who are not yet ready for off-campus employment and collaborates with the Humanities Academy Team to match training tasks with individual career interests and abilities.
The coordinator supervises students in an authentic business setting, provides industry-based instruction, oversees food safety certification processes, manages inventory and financial procedures in accordance with school policy, and evaluates student performance. The position works under limited supervision and exercises independent judgement in daily cafe operations.
Essential Functions Program Management & Compliance- Coordinate and manage daily operations of the Grab & Go cafe to ensure a safe, sanitary, and professional training environment.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and school policies related to food handling, sanitation, safety, cash handling, and confidentiality.
- Maintain documentation related to student certifications, and performance data as required for educational accountability.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of the cafe as a work‑based learning site and implement program improvements as needed.
- Maintain professional standards of conduct and appearance appropriate to a food service and instructional setting.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Supports workplace readiness skills including punctuality, teamwork, communication, task completion, hygiene, and problem‑solving.
- Works with the Humanities Academy Team to develop and implement structured job rotations including food preparation, cashiering, stocking, sanitation, customer service.
- Train students in food preparation, point‑of‑sale procedures, and customer interaction skills using modeling, guided practice, and performance feedback.
- Provide Food Handler training.
- Modify tasks and provide accommodations in alignment with student IEPs and documented transition goals.
- Share student progress data with teachers and transition team members to support IEP and transition planning.
- Encourage student independence and self‑advocacy within the workplace setting.
- Supervise assigned students during scheduled work periods to ensure safety and appropriate workplace conduct.
- Monitor student performance and workplace behaviors; provide corrective instruction and reinforcement as needed.
- Ensure proper food safety procedures are consistently followed by students.
- Maintain a safe environment by monitoring equipment usage and submitting maintenance requests when necessary.
- Maintain inventory control, order supplies, price items, and monitor waste.
- Handle daily cash procedures, reconcile sales, and submit cash deposits to the business office.
- Monitor food quality, presentation, and customer service standards.
- Coordinate and fulfill catering requests in accordance with operational capacity.
- Seek and utilize customer and stakeholder feedback to improve service and training effectiveness.
- Collaborate with the Humanities Academy Team and transition staff to align cafe training tasks with student career pathways and instructional goals.
- Maintain effective communication with instructional staff regarding student performance and scheduling.
- Demonstrate professional interpersonal skills with students, staff, and campus stakeholders.
