Adjunct Professor in Applied Voice and Musical Theater Performance Department:

St. Edward's University of Austin, Texas invites applications for the position of Adjunct Professor for Applied Voice and Musical Theater Performance for the fall 2026 semester.
We would prefer to hire one instructor to teach both areas; however, we are willing to consider separate candidates for each position.
Applied Voice InstructorThe Applied Voice Instructor will provide individualized vocal instruction for Musical Theatre and BFA Acting students.
Responsibilities- Teach up to 10 Applied Voice students per course during the Fall 2026 semester.
- Meet individually with each student for ten 30‑minute lessons over the course of the 15‑week semester.
- Participate in 2–3 Voice Studio classes, where students perform for their peers and receive feedback from the voice faculty.
- Attend and evaluate final voice juries.
- Maintain communication with the Musical Theatre faculty regarding student progress.
- Work within established departmental policies and curricular guidelines.
The instructor has considerable flexibility in scheduling lessons. All lessons must take place on the St. Edward's University campus, but instructors may arrange meeting days and times in a manner that best fits their professional schedule (e.g., one day per week, multiple days per week, or concentrated lesson blocks).
Student PopulationStudents include:
- Musical Theatre minors
- Theatre majors pursuing additional vocal training
- BFA Acting students completing their required semester of Applied Voice
Candidates should be comfortable working with students across a wide range of experience levels, including students with little or no prior vocal training.
Compensation - $284.67 per enrolled student
The Applied Voice assignment may continue into the Spring 2027 semester based on enrollment and departmental needs.
Musical Theatre PerformanceMeeting Time:
Fridays, 1:30–3:15 p.m.
This course introduces students to the musical theatre canon while developing the performance skills necessary for successful auditions and productions. Students explore a variety of musical theatre styles and composers, analyze songs and characters, and learn techniques for preparing and performing musical theatre repertoire. Emphasis is placed on musical and textual analysis, character development, storytelling through song, audition preparation, and professional performance practices.
Responsibilities- Teach one section of THAR 3320 during the Fall 2026 semester.
- Prepare and deliver engaging instruction in musical theatre performance techniques.
- Provide feedback and assessment of student work.
- Participate in departmental assessment and grading procedures.
- Work within established departmental policies and curricular guidelines.
- Master's degree in Vocal Performance, Musical Theatre, Theatre, Music, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
- Demonstrated success teaching voice and/or musical theatre performance.
- Experience working with college‑aged performers.
- Professional experience in musical theatre performance, directing, music direction, vocal coaching, or related fields.
- Ability to teach and mentor students with varied levels of vocal and performance experience.
Responsibilities Include:
- Teach and mentor undergraduate students in accordance with departmental learning objectives.
- Create a supportive and engaging learning environment for students of varying experience levels.
- Provide feedback, assess student progress, and submit grades in a timely manner.
- Participate in required course‑related activities, including studio sessions and juries as appropriate.
- Collaborate with faculty colleagues and adhere to departmental and university policies. Other duties as assigned
