St. Michael’s Prep is looking for a school nurse substitute to serve as the health and wellness expert for our school. This part‑time non‑exempt, hourly/on‑call position serves approximately 500 students in grades PreK‑8 on the lower campus and 400 students in grades 9‑12 on the upper campus, with the opportunity to work 10 months of the year.

• Provide quality nursing care to ill or injured students or faculty/staff during the school day.
• Have experience with diabetic children and their daily health care needs.
• Have experience managing other unique medical conditions.
• Have experience maintaining a peanut‑aware environment.
• Provide health information and in‑service programs on health topics to students, parents, and faculty.
• Manage school health records in accordance with State of Texas and Diocese of Austin requirements.
• Maintain accurate medical records to assure compliance with state mandates including immunizations, physical examinations, and medical conditions.
• Initiate contact with, and act as a liaison between, home, school, community health agencies and the private medical sector to enhance health and wellness.
• Maintain electronic health records within the school website system (experience with Magnus).
• Maintain communication with administrators, teachers, staff, and families to enhance cooperative action that meets the health and safety needs of students.
• Aid in the development and maintenance of school health policies.
• Coordinate student health curriculum with the physical education department.
• Multitask and manage well the simultaneous needs of diabetic students, medication or first‑aid administration to other students.

• Knowledge of children's intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and strong interpersonal skills with children and adults.
• Care, good judgment, and confidentiality in working with students and parents.
• Strong organizational skills.

• Registered Nurse (RN) licensure – current in the State of Texas.
• Current First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification.
• Minimum of two years’ professional nursing experience, preferably in a school or pediatric setting.
