Job Description Summary

The Allied Health Science Department provides prerequisite and corequisite coursework that prepares students for success in Health Science degrees and certificate programs at Austin Community College and other accredited institutions. The department offers a diverse range of courses designed to meet student needs and support student success.

The department serves high school and community college students through in‑person and online instruction. Adjunct faculty design and deliver course content in engaging, innovative, and discipline‑appropriate ways, reflecting a commitment to student success, culturally responsive teaching practices, and a strong understanding of the teaching field. Faculty must comply with college policies and procedures.

Adjunct faculty may be assigned to teach courses at multiple campuses, including high school and ACC campuses, and may teach traditional and high school students, including dual credit and high school academy, and may teach during daytime and evening hours.

Principal Responsibilities and Duties
  • Prepare and teach courses in the Allied Health Sciences department to a multicultural student population based on approved course learning outcomes, utilizing a variety of instructional strategies appropriate to community college students and discipline standards.
  • Evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedback reflecting program learning outcomes and departmental expectations.
  • Provide teaching and mentoring services to students in a manner that does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, protected veteran status, political affiliation, or other protected categories.
  • Remain current in the field through a variety of professional development activities.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the department chair, dean, associate vice chancellor, vice chancellor, or chancellor.
Technology
  • Demonstrated proficiency using computer applications, online resources, and other technologies for the classroom.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using an online learning management system such as Blackboard Ultra to develop course content and perform administrative duties (posting office hours, syllabi, etc.).
Principal Professional Standards
  • Appropriate use of the college’s learning management system.
  • Meet deadlines for attendance certification and submission of final course grades.
  • Participate in graduation, general assembly, and other official college functions.
  • Maintain regular office hours to assist students and improve student retention and success.
  • Attend and participate in college‑wide, campus, department, or other activities and meetings.
  • Recognize and reflect standards of civility and collegiality in all interactions.
  • Comply with published college policies and procedures and meet professional standards for teaching in a community college.
Required Education

In accordance with Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) requirements, candidates must possess:

  • Professional nursing with current Texas licensure, certification, or registration; or
  • Medical Doctor degree with current Texas licensure, certification, or registration; or
  • Baccalaureate in Pharmacy with current Texas licensure, certification, or registration.

  • Schedule flexibility and the ability to engage, support, and deliver innovative instructional practices that promote student success.
