Director of Curriculum and Instructional Excellence
Responsibilities- Lead the strengthening of teaching and learning across KIPP Texas schools, focusing on campuses in transformation.
- Serve as a content and curriculum expert within an assigned grade band and subject area, ensuring clear, coherent understanding of KIPP Texas’s instructional materials (e.g., Amplify Texas, Amplify ELAR Texas, HMH Into Literature).
- Develop deep expertise in curricular frameworks and ensure their implementation with fidelity, rigor, and alignment to standards.
- Design and facilitate high-quality professional learning experiences that strengthen content knowledge, build instructional capacity, and deepen understanding of curriculum execution.
- Provide direct, job-embedded coaching to teachers and instructional leaders, including modeling instruction, observing classrooms, giving actionable feedback, and strengthening leaders’ coaching capacity.
- Use data-driven progress monitoring and sustained professional learning structures to advance instructional excellence and improve student outcomes across KIPP Texas campuses.
- Support a portfolio of schools to meet KIPP Texas STAAR targets, aiming for significant student growth, 100% of schools achieving an A or B rating, and 100% meeting specified Reading and Math STAAR benchmarks.
- Bachelor’s degree; a relevant master’s degree in education preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years experience as a successful assistant principal, school leader, or full‑time instructional coach.
- Proven record of driving instructional growth.
- Deep knowledge of content and pedagogy in a specific content area (currently K‑5 math, 6–8 math, or 9–12 math).
- Preference for candidates with experience implementing Bluebonnet Math TEKS Edition or Carnegie Math.
- Demonstrated belief in the capacity of all students to achieve at high levels.
- Exceptional ability to set clear metrics, monitor progress, and persist through obstacles.
- Strong leadership judgment, strategic thinking, and ability to translate instructional expertise into practice amid ambiguity.
- Exceptional coaching skills that lead to improved instructional effectiveness.
- High self‑awareness, humility, and integrity.
- Must be able to move about inside and outside school throughout the workday.
- Attend conferences, meetings, and training sessions both virtually and in person within the region.
- Reliable transportation for travel between campuses.
- Maintain emotional control under stress.
- Work effectively with frequent interruptions.
Hybrid work: spends significant time in KIPP Texas schools with hybrid options when not in classrooms.
Travel RequirementsModerate travel: regular visits to school sites, regional offices, and external locations for professional learning and meetings, ranging between 20% and 60% depending on candidate’s location.
