PurposeThe Senior Research Program Coordinator will provide comprehensive support and strategic management of undergraduate research activity in the College of Liberal Arts. This position reports to the Director and the Associate Dean in the Office of Research, and will work closely with Dean's Office staff, departments, faculty, and students to develop, facilitate, and promote undergraduate research opportunities.
Responsibilities- Serve as main point of contact and coordinator for undergraduate research activity in the College of Liberal Arts (COLA). Manage, administer, and develop undergraduate research programs, including the COLA Undergraduate Research Apprenticeship Program (URAP). Enroll students in program-specific courses, maintain rosters, disperse funds, manage budgets, set programmatic timelines, create applications, evaluate course success each semester, and communicate with faculty, students, and cohorts.
Work with the College leadership to develop and increase URAP participation. Track undergraduate research engagement and program growth. - Coordinate and plan events, programs, and activities that support undergraduate research, including advising, semester research fairs, symposiums, professional development events, course credit, and other programs and initiatives. Promote, facilitate, and participate in the selection process for Liberal Arts Undergraduate Research Awards (Rising Research Awards, Faculty-Undergraduate Collaborative Research Award, and other awards and grants). Collaborate with various College partners in events including research fairs, poster sessions, and research week.
- Promote undergraduate research opportunities, program information, events, and achievements through collaboration with college partners, including Student Affairs, Public Affairs, and Career Services. Coordinate student assistance for portfolio activities. Develop recurring promotional efforts to highlight students, programs, and research projects on college social media and website pages.
- Conduct internal and external outreach with administrators, faculty, advisors, and students to implement a strategic vision for increasing undergraduate participation in research across the College. Develop program-beneficial relationships and networks, and work with faculty and staff across campus on initiatives related to undergraduate research. Serve as liaison and represent COLA undergraduate research interests across campus.
- Other duties as assigned, with the goal of increasing responsibilities and fostering professional growth and trajectory.
At least 5 years of responsible level experience in program administration or program coordination with a Bachelor's Degree; or at least 3 years of responsible level experience in program administration or program coordination with a Master's Degree. The ability to work in a team-oriented environment with sensitive and confidential information. Demonstrated self-starter with excellent written and oral communication skills. Proficient use of MS Word, Excel, Outlook and Adobe Acrobat.
Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgement, maintain accuracy, and pay close attention to detail.
Professional demeanor and demonstrated excellence in a university position that supports faculty and/or students. Experience building projects out, facilitating undergraduate research, additional experience beyond the required, or expertise in advising, group work, assessment, and administration of academic programs. Knowledge of research processes at a large university. Knowledge of campus resources. Ability to relate well with college students, staff, and faculty. Experience at UT Austin or another large university.
Familiarity with University policies and procedures. Knowledge of UT Austin's student and/or financial management systems. Advanced organizational skills.
