Student Classroom Aide Temple Beth Shalom Religious School – Austin, TX Part Time | Non-Exempt

Hours:

Sundays during the religious school year (typically 9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. or 10:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m., depending on assignment) Compensation:
Commensurate with experience About the Role Temple Beth Shalom is seeking warm, patient, and dependable Student Classroom Aides to support individual students during Sunday religious school classes and programs. Our aides help students successfully participate in classroom learning, social activities, tefillah (prayer), and the broader life of the religious school community. This role is about supporting access, inclusion, confidence, and connection while helping students build independence over time.

This is a wonderful role for college students, future educators, graduate students in education or counseling programs, retired educators, or anyone with experience working with children and a passion for creating supportive learning environments.

Key Responsibilities
• Provide one-on-one or small-group support for assigned students during Sunday school programming
• Help students participate meaningfully in classroom activities, transitions, prayer, and social interactions
• Support students with focus, organization, emotional regulation, and behavioral needs as appropriate
• Implement strategies and accommodations developed in partnership with teachers and the Student Support Manager
• Help maintain a calm, positive, and inclusive classroom environment
• Encourage student independence while providing appropriate support
• Communicate regularly with teachers and the Student Support Manager about student needs, successes, and challenges
• Support students in ways that preserve dignity, belonging, and relationship About You You are patient, flexible, and calm, especially when things get a little chaotic. You genuinely enjoy working with children and understand that every child learns, communicates, and regulates differently. You are able to follow direction, work collaboratively with classroom teachers, and adapt to the changing needs of a Sunday morning.

You are supportive without being overbearing and understand the importance of helping students feel included rather than singled out. Most importantly, you believe that every child deserves to feel successful, welcomed, and valued in Jewish community. Qualifications
• Experience working with children in schools, camps, childcare, youth programs, or similar settings preferred
• Interest in education, child development, psychology, social work, special education, or related fields a plus
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
• Comfort working collaboratively as part of a team
